Greetings All,

I am about to purchase a 1990 Paso, 4,000 miles, yellow. I am very excited about it, but need to know what to look out for. Any suggestions before I take ownership?

Thanks

Alberto

Welcome Alberto,
You have to look for the same things which you would look for all the bikes.
If the bike is heavily dropped, you can see the exhausts bent to the inner side. The rear fork could be dented by the nuts of the exhausts.
Besides, when the bike is dropped, often the headlight frame goes bent, so the headlight is not centred in the front fairing.
However, if the bike is yellow, for sure it has been repainted because the Paso 906 was only built in red/white, blue/white and grey/white.
All in all, the Pasos are sturdy and have only minor issues from the electrics and the fueling.
So, probably the worst problem is the availability of the tires.
They are built no more by Michelin (the only one producer) since 2004.
So, that will be an huge problem.
Good luck
Ciao

BUT there is already little "light" in that 16" tire .... so, if Avon/Cooper start to make them, then there is nomore "big troubles" with 750/906...

Alberto,

Welcome to the forum! Are you sure it is original 4000 or just a new speedometer. I don't remember a yellow 906.

It is very common to change colours after a bike has had a crash because it is easier or cheaper to respray the whole bike.

Any other members know of a yellow Paso?

LT Snyder (DesmoTimes.com) recommends removing the front sprocket cover (two 5mm allen screws) to see if there is any chain damage to the engine cases. His maintenance manual has four pages on "How to Buy a Used Ducati."

an etched swing arm from battery/charging issues, fuel smell indicates a cracked tank possibly, also lots of road goo on the bottom of the side fairings also indicates a cracked tank, missing paint anywhere indicates the possibility of bent or misaligned frame or fairing stays or just a mechanically challenged previous owner.

also look for grease or lube trials( dirt tracks) anywhere or unexplained damage to any parts. I you really want to know whats up spend the 10 to twenty minutes it will take to take the body work off and have a good look at the back side of the body work and anything marring any paint anywhere.

As already indicated no yellow ones made. But what the hell just get it and enjoy.
