I don't understand what you are asking. Are you wanting to know how to remove the retaining ring from the head or how to remove the ring from the exhaust pipe?

To remove it from the head, you just remove the two nuts that are mounted on the head studs and wiggle it off the studs. In some cases, I've seen the nuts to be over-torqued, which results in the ring being bent and stubborn to come off. Heavy rust could cause problems pulling it off of the studs, also.

To remove the retaining ring from the pipe, you just separate the ring from the flange on the exhaust pipe, and the two half-rings will fall out. If they are badly rusted, they may be sticking, but shouldn't be a problem to get off. Once the half-rings are removed, the ring just slides off the pipe.

Did I answer your question?

Can you get a picture of it? From what I recall from my '87, the flare on the end of the pipe is either welded or it is a rolled section of the pipe. Then, you have the two half-rings that fit into a recession on the retaining ring. It's fairly straight-forward and the same as my '98 ST2.
