HACKED

Post by Skins »

:)

Thanks for getting us through this, Mike. Let's keep it going, just as we'll keep our Pasos going, with or without Michelins.

I can't believe it.
Why do hack the website?
Do we are the CIA or FBI or so?
Many thanks to Mike who has rebuilt the forum.
I also hope Mike can find out who made that.
HE/SHE REALLY HAS TO BE TORTURED AND KILLED

No matter, I was thinking maybe we have to pay something for the maintenance of the website.

I'd have no problem for that.

Mike, let us know.

Here's some of the more technical details:

We were running an older distribution of Debian Linux, called 'Sarge'
Over the week, I did an upgrade to a newer version.

The phpbb2 forums that we were using [embedded into phpnuke] are notoriously filled with security holes. I had patched them up nice and tidy.

So, during the distribution upgrade, one of my nicely patched holes was opened back up.
This in turn let one of the phpbb2 worms that regularly hit ALL websites on the internet in.

So, it was a totally random act of hackery. We were not defaced. My server was being used as a 'phishing' site for about 8 hours.

All of the carnage has been cleaned out, we now have a more secure linux distribution, tne newest [and much better] versions of phpbb and gallery. There will be some major changes to the site's organisation [as you've noticed] to help facilitate agility to react to security issues.

For example, we can shut down the forums but leave the gallery open, or vice versa.

Anyhow, I have even more gory details if you want to know.

No need for the gory details Mike, it's just good that the worldwide group of Paso owners have still got the ability to talk to each other..

Thanks and good luck with everything.

I think, Mike do GREAT JOB to keep this up and hopefully he managed in that... Its good, that he tell to us, "shortly", what was wrongly and i also admire very much, that he makes such votes, as "background colur", what is very important to me at least, cause i dont see anymore so clearly(have to buy new glasses soon)..too old already.... This white background is much easier to handle !!!! Thanks Mike, that You changed it... 8)

Actually I started thinking about us as we were a wind of "knight in arms", free from fear and spots!
Able to be mechanical, engineer, poets and all what might aim the apex... Before :(
Thiscould be (now I know! ) because of the mike's good work, and hope we'll be able to be again part of such a site for a very, very long time! Mike, anything you need...
