888 wheels on a PASO 750 is it possible?

Post by nilaus »

Hi Guys
I have just been offered a pair of nice looking 888 wheels front 3,5x17 (120 70 17 tyre) and 5,5 x 17 (180 55 17 tyre). Has any one mounted such a pair, and what kind mods. where needed? Is the 180 tyre to wide ? Should I mount a 160 tyre instead and is this possible on a 5,5” wheel?

The 180 tire is the right size for the 5.5 inch wide wheel. I don't think that the 5.5 wheel will fit the Paso wings arm.

Easiest way it to add longer swingarm, like from 907 to 750 Paso and then surely such wheel fits perfectly. 888 have just same wheels, as 907, but i think, that 170 tire is better to Paso, not 180. ST2 use MOSTLY 170 tire and ST4 and ST4s use 180 tire. Anyway You can add 180 tire to your purpose. tire is not so important to thik firs, but suitable swingarm! Some have used also 4.5" wheel from Supersport with good results. If U want to use very wide 180 tire, then You ahve to use 5.5" wheel. Simply normal 750/906 swingarm is too short for 17" conversion.

There is plenty of other modifications, what you have to do to add those wheels.... tire "problem" is one of smalest one... u should look closer plenty of those "17 inch wheel conversion" discussions here in these sites..... anyway i realized, that easies way is to swap plenty of 907 things to 750/906, if want to make 17" conversion..... :smoke:

a 5.5" rim is possible but it`s tight. The 180 tire will not fit, a 170 is the only option unless you find yourself a 907ie swingarm. The easiest way is a 4.5" rim with 160 or 170 tire.
Usual requirements, chain alignment with spacers for the sprockets, lengthen (side) stand, change wheel bearings, make a spacer for the rear wheel (the spacer inside the wheel between the wheel bearings), make front wheel brake adapters and raise front fender. Not sure about rear brake caliper bracket and brake lines.

hehe, same posts at exactly the same time

it`s possible to keep it but the chain excenters will be turned to the rear so you will lose some range of change adjustment.

You are totally right, but i wanted to say it "simply", what is "main problem" If swingarm would be longer, than much easier to fit 17" wheels and plenty of allkind tires.

I just checked the info again that is in the downloads thread about 17" wheel conversion.
There`s a copy of the paperwork of the official TUV approval. According to it the bike has 120/70ZR17 on 3,5x17 on the front and 180/55ZR17 on 5,5x17 on the back and if you check the pictures in the zip file you`ll see that the swingarm is the original one. So it`s possible (altough I wonder if there`s more than a piece of paper that fits between tire and swingarm) The approval is limited to Bridgestone BT020F on the front and BT020R radial on the back. (maybe other tires of the same size are larger or expand more when they have higher temperature...).
