Production date on the A59 tyres
Hi guys, I've got a spare tyre for my paso but I don't know if I can put it on the bike. The recent owner bought it five years ago.. To be sure I should know when the production date is. It should be on the tyre.. Anyone..?

Re: Production date on the A59 tyres
Its in tire and there is month(2 digits) and 2 last numbers of year(2 digits). Its about 6-9mm high, so you find it surely...

Re: Production date on the A59 tyres
it`s the DOT number. Although the question is if the tire was from the same year the last owner bought it in, I would not use a tire that is 5 years old.

Re: Production date on the A59 tyres
I actually use tires that are that old...and sometimes older. You just have to be careful to see how it responds. Sometimes, it will take a lot more time for the tire to warm up and stick. The tires (Dunlop D207) on my wife's 2000 Yamaha R1 were still original when we bought the bike. The bike was 7 years old and only had 3960 miles on it when we bought it in January of 2007. The front tire slid on me about four or five times until I finally started to let it warm up longer than I normally would with newer tires....paso750 wrote:I would not use a tire that is 5 years old.
Come to think of it, the front tire on my wife's R1, right now, was manufactured in 2001. It came on a spare set of rims that I bought, and instead of throwing the tires away with lots of tread left, we are using them.....Now, on a side note, I would never recommend that anyone use older tires if they are either a new rider or are riding a bike that they have never ridden before. It is too difficult to know what the bike and tires may do if you are not familiar with riding in general or that specific bike.

Re: Production date on the A59 tyres
Got it, tx guys. Bad news is that the tyre is from '93.. and still 98% profile.. It looks allright though. Maybe try it on and see what happens

U can feel rubber with Your fingers! If its hard, then dont put it to bike, but if soft, like should, then its ok....

I guess that after 15 years those tyres have to be too hard...

Re: Production date on the A59 tyres
Hi yall
I don't agree with you, regarding production date and Dot no.
I have just last weekend replaced my front and rear tyre.
My old front: Dot 0801
My old rear: Dot 2201
Then it can't be month and year but week and year.
The old tires ran okay, but the front tyre hadn't the grip anymore, and in the end they were worn down. I have to say that the bike had stand still in about 5 years before i bought it 2 years ago.
I have 2 complete sets of tires for 16" in spare - yes the right ones
- Dot 04, which I have bought in Italy recently. So it is still possible to find them. Don't expect to find them much newer.
I maybe could be convinced to sell the one spare set

Re: Production date on the A59 tyres
You are right, its week&year, not month&year.
