This was a project from a guy from zwolle (the netherlands) that stopped building because he didn't want to spend more time (or money) in it.

He sold several parts on ebay last year.

I think that the total setup of this bike is quite wrong.
The forks are too long and have only one brakedisc, while mounting a 100 hp engine

Hi All,

Fitting a ST4 engine to a 750 Paso - what a challenge indeed and some of us thrive on challenges!!!

Has anyone thought about building a 2 valve 851cc engine and using a 900SS motor as a basis? Steve Munro from Loudbike embarked on this avenue when he rebuilt a 750 F1 engine:

This approach would probably be less time intensive but may end up being more costly due to the cost associated with building a one-off engine...

I'm right in the middle of installing the 916 engine into this '88 Paso 750 frame. It is not a direct swap and it looks like I will have to modify the frame a little bit for horizontal head clearance, but it will not compromise the structural integrity of the frame.....especially once I get it rewelded to move the frame rail just a little bit. I've got all of the engine mounting lugs cuts down, but I need to trim the shrouding away from the lower engine mount on the engine cases to clear the lower rear suspension linkage mount on the frame. I'm getting close.

Here is an update on the engine installation with some pictures, so you can see my progress.

Wow....it's been a while since I've had any time to mess with this project. Since my last post, I've done a valve adjustment and timing belt change on the wife's Monster and performed a bunch of work to other vehicles. This past weekend I did do some more filing on the engine cases to get it to clear the rear suspension mounting point on the frame that was hitting the case, but I have not test-fit the engine, again. I've got six days off starting next Tuesday, and I'm trying to motivate myself to get the engine installed in the frame during those days off from work.....well, work on the Megapaso and pull the swingarm off the wife's GSXR...maybe start the valve adjustment on the 748....change an exhaust gasket on the truck.....do some work to the other ST2.....

seems, that You have very similar life, as i have here; too much work with too many bikes !!! This is horrible, because have to do also sometimes something else, that play with Ducatis....

I spent some more time with it and now have the engine settled into the frame. I had to cut a small section of the frame to clear the horizontal head, but I have the engine bolted into the frame, now. I also see some more potential obstacles to overcome, but those will be later. The next thing I want to do is install the front and rear suspensions before getting the frame rewelded where I had to cut it, so that the frame will look nice and clean and unbutchered, again...

So the frame was only cut on the one side to clear the cam? Do you have a picture from the front to see how much interference there is??

Sure.....The belt cover and cam hits the frame fairly easily, and the cross bar in the front interfers with the intake valve cover. I removed the valve cover to get the frame settled down a little bit further.

The heads on the ST4 are shorter in height than the regular 916 Superbike engine and is named the "Testastretta Basso". They are the same heads that are on the '02 748 and may not cause any clearance issues with the front wheel....These heads were originally designed for the ST4 due to clearance issues with the standard heads and front wheel clearance.

For electronics, I have the complete wiring harness, sensors, ECU computer, coils, headers, and everything else needed from the same bike that the engine came from....Basically, it will be an ST4 shoved into a Paso frame and bodywork.

I haven't found the time to work on this projects in quite a while, so I took a couple of hours to assemble the bike with the front end and the rear suspension. I used the stock front forks since I traded the other triple clamps for five slightly used front tires. The rear suspension looks like it will work out great, and with the stock forks and 16" wheel, I don't think the front wheel will hit the horizontal head.....but I won't know for sure until I fully compress the front forks. Since I haven't updated my webpages on the project, here are some more pictures...









I think my next step is to take it back apart, get the frame rewelded where I had to cut it, and then start reassembling it....hopefully for good.

I have no idea when I'll do that, though.

It is a modified steel swingarm from an ST2/4, so it is painted. I used a silver color for a GM truck that I found at a local auto paint store.
