Formal intro...

Post by 21783mike »

Hi all, My name is Mike and I am a Ducati addict  :banghead: I just acquired an 87 Paso, from a fellow in Dayton Ohio. It's going to need a little love as it had not been run much the past 2 years or so and the carbs are a bit gummed up causing a stumble at idle. I have some seafoam in it right now and it seems to be clearing it up and it's better each time I start it now. It's 2 tone yellow now as the paint that was used on the fairings is a bit lighter than the tank ect.... but she looks decent from 20 ft or so

Right now it has Mikuni's on it, I also got a set of Delorto's and the stock Weber. I also got another rear wheel, brand new front tire, a set of F1 pipes and a bunch of other misc brand new and used parts in a few boxes.

I put the F1's on this morning and that really made a difference, I believe the carbs are set up for these and the guy I bought the bike from had put the stock pipes back on for some reason...???????

Well that's it for now, I'm sure I'll have lots of ???? real soon though

Be sure, that Your carbs are adjusted to those F1 pipes! If it runs too "lean" (too much air in fuel mixture) with open pipes, then You can loose Your exhaust valves.... :smoke: Much more wiser to adjust only carbs, than loose some valves....... How about belts change? I mean, how old they are?

If you don't know how old are the belts, change them at once!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome folks...

I'm thinking I might put new belts on it eventually

The PO told me that he had just recently put the stock cans back on... so I know it had the F1's on it when he bought it.

I've seen pictures of other yellow paso's but there is no mention of "yellow" in the production #'s elsewhere on this site, I sorta like the yellow and am considering having the fairings repainted to match the tank ect... But I do think the whole bike would also look great painted the same pearl white that is on the 848's. Can someone point me to a good collection of photo's of Paso's so I might get some ideas?

Yellow was never a factory color for the Paso bikes.

For pictures, I don't recall if we still have the photo gallery since the hacker attack, but you can go to Google or Yahoo and do image searches.

if the red seat and the silver/red rims are original I`d say the original colour of the bike was white.
Maybe it was repainted as it fell over once, at least the brake lever is still bent.

Yes it was dropped at some point, dunno how bad. The gauge cluster was replaced and the air scoops have been smoothed into the fairings with filler it appears, don't know it that was out of necessity or aesthetics. When I pull the fairings off over the weekend I'll know better once I see if any of the mounting tabs have been bent ect...

I don't think she's had bad damages. The headlight seems centred in the front fairing.
When the Pasos have some bad accident, the headlight often goes back and out of the center because the frame's arms go bent.
Besides, see at the rear fork. If the bike was hard dropped, the fork is splined by the mufflers' nuts, because the rear footrests go also bent.

maybe it just fell to the right. The exhaust seems to show some scratches and the mirror seems to have the same colour tone as the tank. I wonder why the original brake and clutch pump were changed to the type with the round fluid reservoire.

If you remove the fairing check the 2 steering stops on the front of the frame. They are at the height of the lower triple clamp and prevent the steering halves to hit the tank at full turn to left or right. If the bike was crashed you can normally see that one stop (on the opposite side the bike fell on) is either bent or cracked. Some change the adjusting screw to a longer one if one of the stops is bent as otherwise it isn`t possible to set the steering so it doesn`t hit the tank. I know what I`m talking about I`ve had to do that after my first crash :?

Because they look cool. :smoke:

I changed the ones on my ST2 purely for the look of it. If I ever build up this MegaPaso, those are the master cylinders I'll put on it. I already have a spare clutch master cylinder.

For my eyes, those new style bottles, like i have in my ST2 and ST4s looks awfull compared to old style square model (like Pasos have), but its not only "looking", cause those newer systems are better ones in tecnical means.... Ducati changed to more newer style in Multistrada and 1098, etc bikes and those are best looking and surely also best quality products. As everybody knows, near allwas new products are better, than old products.... :smoke:
