Alternative oil filter

Post by Duc906 »

I did an oil change yesterday and since I'm 3 1/2 hours from the nearest Ducati shop I went for an alternative oil filter.I used the parts interchange as a guide with no success, but what I did find was that this filter from Ryco was almost identical to the original.

beware of not OEM filters!
Some of them have (or need) a "non retourn" valve inside and this might cause serious pressure troubles to your engine!

So does the original filter have a non return valve in it?

Actually I don't remember...
Otherwise I'm SURE that old "alfa romeo Alfetta" has a huge filter w/o valve and "Alfasud / alfa33 /alfa 145" has it.

I use FRAM PH2839 about 5.50-6.00€
No problems ever and made in EU

Citroen 2CV and some older Talbot use same filter.

Unfortunately, I doubt the spares (so, the filters) for FIAT, Alfa Romeo, Citroen and Talbot were easily available in Australia...

I have a buch of the K&N which is a very nice filter. The club buys them at about $8.10 each. Just ordered 45 of them!

Do you need one? I can mail it to you.

Thanks Jon
But I've already fitted the Ryco filter.I took the bike for a decent ride yesterday to test all the tyre mods that I've done and had no dramas with the oil filter.

Cheers Ken

Halfords (Great Britain) now have a line of motorcycle accessories and that includes oil filters for all Ducatis.
