Metzeler 16" not available

Post by jomo »

I must apologise to everyone hat I said we had no prblem obtaining rear 16" tyres in Australia. I rang my supplier last week and said "get me another 16 rear" He said "I don't think they are available". He checked and was right.

I am lucky I bought a silver 906 with a 17" wheel conversion. So I am swapping the wheels until the new tyres are availale. I will keep you posted on the difference between 16 and 17" wheels.

Hi
Do you have a picture, or pictures, of your 906 with the 17" wheels. You are welcome to send them to my e-mail klp@bwe.dk. I am looking for inspiration on "how to doo". I have the basic hardware such as wheels and brakes, so I am just looking for inspiration on how to put it together so it looks nice.
Kind regards.

Well, the wheels are changed to 17" and the difference is very surprising. I did not expect it to be much better, but it is really great. I compared the original wheels and parts to the conversion and it looks reasonably easy with the help of an engineering shop.

I have the part numbers of the Yamaha wheels and will post them with photos when I get it all together (might take me a few weeks).

Has anyone enquired with Michelin about the 160/60-16 tyres? If not I might send them an email and wait for no answer. I would still like to keep one bike close to original.

All, what we know now is, that Michelin made last pach of those 16" tires 2004 and they dont make them anymore! That "Avon/Cooper" company is only hope now to continue with 16" wheels/tires and guys are doing work for that just now to make pressure to Ducati to make pressure to Avon / Cooper. Easiest way to convert to 17" is to use ("wrecked") 907 parts, like whole swingarm, wheels and brakes. Surely need work, but that will be easiest way... U can find plenty of notes about 17" converion from these sites.....

I just realised I started the post with Metzeler! Apologies again...I meant Michelin. I had been researching Metzeler on the net and I suppose it was on my mind.
