Clutch basket play

Post by silverfox »

Hi,

does anyone remember having their clutch plates out and how much sideways play they had in the outer basket?
It looks like it has 2? bearings behind it - so I wouldn't expect to have any play?

Do these bearings commonly wear, since they take the load from the engine crank?

Ok, I'll answer my own question

Yes, the primary gear has 2 bearings (spacer and circlip between them)
The bearings are 47x25x8 and 47x25x12 with a 47x35x7 seal.

This gear gets a hard time. Its driven via straight cut gears from a cog on the crank and has the clutch basket bolted directly onto it. This is big load and torque for the 2 bearings to cope with, mine need replacing (I'm hoping these are the first bearings in the engine to show wear and that the rest are ok)

now to make a paper side cover gasket.............anyone done this? what about making alloy barrel gasket? (0.4mm)

The dealer will have the alloy gasket, maybe the paper too.

I have made paper gaskets before but not this thin.
