JohnM you've come to the right place, although I am over here in the UK the 907ie is the best of the bunch if you are looking for spares for the engine, many parts are inter changeable with other models. Generally speaking most bits are out there it's just a case of finding them. Plenty of bikes are getting parted sadly as they make more money in bits for the scrappers of the world. There are several folk on this site on your side of the Pond that will help you further.

Is your bike in question owned by a past or present member on this site?

Before you do mate try and speak with some of the folk over there and a bit closer to you they will give you a better idea on what to look out for stateside on values and conditions converting $3500 this side will get you a near mint model/ low mileage (under 20,000 uk miles) with a full history etc, on the road ready to roll this side of the Atlantic.

JohnM,
If you are in the San Francisco area, I can swing by and give my 2cents about your pending purchase. A good 907 for $3500 is about the going price here. For a Paso, its the one to get.

cheers,

I have 50,000 on mine. But will have to be honest. Basically the motor is sound but on a track day the alternator rotor split and seized the motor. Metal particles went all inside the engine and I had to have it rebuilt, about $4,000 us. But up until that I had very little problems with it. But the following is a list of the usual things that come up:

Starter sprag clutch
leaking oil at the heads
clutch slipping (can be fixed by stacking plates differently)
adjust valves regularly
taillight lense will crack, usually tighten to much
fork seals will leak, that can be fixed long term also
battery drains, quartz clock is the reason, there is a fix for this too.
anti-freeze tank splits at seams
seat slips forward and unlocks, fix for this too
The nut on the alternator rotor needs to be re-torqued (to prevent the splitting)
regulator problems and wires get fried near the regulator

that's all that I can think of right now. I'm sure others can add to the list.

Good luck with the bike, I think you will enjoy it. Everywhere you go people will notice it is a ducati, and motorcycle people will notice it is an unusual ducati.
