clutch plates falling out

Post by 94VERTiGO »

I have been putting together an '88 750 Paso for a couple months now. But, the clutch keeps coming apart for apparently no reason. Yesterday I was moving it out of the garage and it happened again. It seems to be assembled correctly with locking ring in place, but this is the second time in a row that it has happened. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Pat

The last (friction ) plate fitted is different to the others in that it only has lining material on one side. This plate should be fitted with the non friction side facing out.If you lay the large retaining circlip on a flat surface you should be able to see that this circlip is actually " dished " . The dished ( concave ) side should also face out. All of the pressure of the spring pack is pushing against this circlip when clutch is engaged . That circlip should have a bit of spring in it , and not just fall into place. All of the above is assuming that the rest of the clutch is correctly assembled ( plates in correct order ) good luck
I wish I was young again............Id be heaps smarter than last time
