I guess ( trying to see the bright side ) that when you have finished fixing up your paso you will have a "known" quality. I cant help but thinking that the confidence ( maybe not the right word ) that you get from knowing beyond all doubt that everything is present and correct inside your paso is worth what it costs
I wish I was young again............Id be heaps smarter than last time

Pistons are more or less the same, and any OEM or aftermarket (wiseco/ferracci/pistal) piston for SS or Moster 750 will fit the Paso 750.
Here I would have to disagree. They do have the same 88mm diameter but they are not the same. The compression ratio is higher.
What`s the difference in the crankshafts ?

G.
Of course is higher, most of the aftermarket pistons (if not all) are!

going by memory the lowest was the PISTAL RACING (Italy) @ 10.5:1 CR but it hat a T type of mantel (racing design)

The Old pistons have Flat Tops, the new ones have domed tops, BUT, they will fit.

Of course if you choose a HC piston you weill need to check the valve cleareance, but it is a very simple job for a good mechanic.
I had to machine a little away of the valve pockets as my NCR cams have very high lift an EXTREME overlap, so there was a little interfereance.

here is the comparison between the old piston and the Ferracci I decided to use; the white cast is to show the volume available in the heads (compression chamber)

As for the CRANKSHAFT, the main difference is in the NUT on the CLUTCH side; Unfortunately I do not have a picture of the PASO version, but I have one of an M600 which had the same measurements (stroke is 61.5mm as in the 750 and lenght plus all the main bearings diameter were the same )

Last the Gearbox
here is a picture of the one I had compared to the M620 version (on the right)

The old (Left) was from an elefant 750 (same as Paso just a difference in the gearing).

From the picture you can see that the primary has a different NUT, plus it has a hole which allows to install the Clutch slave cylinder on the left.

The secondary are exactly the same BUT different in legth; I am not sure if the Paso is longer than the Elefant version I had, what I know is that by using the M620 version, my rear sproket is perfectly alligned to a 916 rear end I fitted on the bike :D

Another thing, the selector drums are very similar, BUT they are NOT interchangeable; The selector forks, instead, are absolutely identical.

here is a movie of when I started the engine the VERY first time

and one after a little tinkering with my FCRs BUT NO Ignitec Ignition yet

I then fitted the Ignitec which helped a lot but still have to put it on the dyno, for more tweaking and testing, which I will do sometime this winter.

Thx!

Aha, an SS, then it would be nice to see the whole bike.

little off topic, although the complete heads, the primary gear, the starter motor, the clutch basket, the clutch cover and the sprocket cover are coming from a Paso...

here you are:

and while testing bodywork (will prepare two sets, une yello and one red so I do not get bored...    )

Must say I am not 100% sure about the bodywork yet, nevertheless I will sticke to the original half fairing for a while and then will see.

I was talking only about the original pistons F1/Paso/Sport vs. Supersport/Monster.

Will let you know about Brad The Bike boy later as my 907 goes there for valves/belts and full check of all the sensors, TPS, mixture etc on Oct 13.

Also Melbourne Desmo, Bob Brown, the legend! is at Riddells Creek , about 50mins north west of Melbourne.

Check Gowanlochs and Italspares for parts. i recently purchased a new set of OEM barrells and pistons for the restoration bike from Italspares. Bob is doing that motor!

FYI Bob built the Kevin Magee Ducati that cleaned up all before. Its rumored that Ducati had a look at this bike and later copied Bobs ideas. I think he was doing 4 valve heads etc. Alan Cathcart now has the bike. Bob is grumpy but a great fellow!
