headlight on /off switch

Post by bobst2 »

canadian bikes were shipped with no headlight on / off switch. i assume the left handelbar switch assembly where the plastic filler panel is.should be where it goes.

if yes does anyone have a complete left control with the switch in it they :?: want to sell

I took two assemblies to piece together one working one, so I had the on/off function on my bike, as they weren't stock for the US versions.
1st position is all lights off. No headlight or tailight. Stealth mode.
2nd position is tailights, but no headlight.
3rd position is headlight and tailight.

If the law states that you must have your headlight on while on the road, like the US, make sure you have the switch in position #3.

I installed one of these on my 900ss a few years back:

Worked just fine, but needed to be wired in.

thanks all. jon i looked at that switch i think i will put one in if i cant find an original one.
i have done some testing & i think some of the problems i have had with th bike going dead slowley have to do with the headlight being on all the time. at idle the chargeing system puts out less than the draw. if i unhook the headlight the system seems to work normaly

there`re also other, cheaper units i.e.

(I can`t remember, is the choke mounted to the brake pump or the switch unit?!)

If I well remember, the chock unit is the same on the 3 Pasos.
If so, the choke unit is a separate collar fitted between the switch and the clutch pump.

Sounds to me you may have a demagnitized rotor issue, Me too. Reality is every single"pulse" of current reduces the magnitism of this integral part of the alternator assembly. Dropping it the ground does it a lot quicker or hitting it with a hammer to remove it or just changes in the weather. but over the years just running the bike will eventually leave the system lacking. This assumes all else is working of course. My 906 just went belly up on me yesterday, first time in almost 2 years, well for direct charging issues anyway :fart: The 907 also suffers the same malady. I am sure there are many others here

I know of a few ways to remagnitize a household generator using 120 or 220 and a few light bulbs. I have even seen it done with a reversible electric drill.

So as I have nothing much else on my agenda for the next week or 2 and I have a spare to try it out on I plan to figure out a safe and effective way to address this at home in the garage. Stay tuned, Now WTF did I do with my mr wizard hat :truck: :choo:
