engine block rejuvenation... any hints?

Post by 750pheonix »

Hello people, I got the Paso dropped off today and took the 906 panels off the little beast to see what exactly i have inherited. First thing that hit me was the dreadful state of the engine finish... so much oxidization. So any tips for cleaning this stuff up or am i looking at getting it vapour cleaned and repainted...?

I'm very new to this stuff... any help very much appreciated. i have asked for a gallery space to be set up, and will fill it with sad pics soon... it would have been nice to find a bike in the sort of condition that jspring found his but alas it is not to be.

Thanks for the compliment I got lucky this time, but usualy I'm the one finding out about what a deal someone else got  . Living here in Minnesota where rust and corrosion are common I've learned a few things about making things look a little beter. Rough aluminum cleans up well with fine steel wool and light pressure I even wet it sometimes. Smooth aluminum I use mothers aluminum polish, the exhaust cans (learning the lingo :D ) were badly oxidized, I used mothers, now they look very good. As for painted surfaces in any condition I've had very good results with a product called "Nu Finish", it comes in a orange bottle. I've used most every name brand I think and really like this stuff. If you can't find that, try a auto paint store they normaly have high quality waxes and finish restorers and could offer good advise also.
