Headlight glass removal

Hi Guys has anyone manged to succesfully sperate the headlight glass from the headlight casing - if so how - I'm guessing its bonded as well as clipped - whats it bonded with and how did you release it?

I'm trying to sit some LED daylight running lights in there so I have a bot more presence without the full beam on all the time given our "limp arsed" alternators!

The adhesive that is generally used for a headlamp assembly is a urethane or mastic that is slightly foamed. Not meant to be taken apart. If you are dead set at taking it apart, besides with a hammer, you can fish a bit or steel braided wire between the two and saw the to parts apart like they do for a windshield. There is no solvent that will dissolve that bond without destroying the plastic bits around it. A dremel tool might be your best option. Or get two headlamps, and cut off the lens on one, and the reflector of the other, then glue them together. Or just buy the Yamaha one. Not a bit that takes well to changes.

I've bought an LED strip that I will be fitting in the groove under the headlight. Should solve all probs.

why not try to find an LED bulb that fits in the parking light socket, who needs that anyway? Then just disconnect the wiring and you`re almost done. The socket should be a "Ba9s", just look for that and "LED" on the internet.

I managed to get the glass off spare with a knackered reflector. I did it as a experiment to see if it could be done. If it wasn't too difficult I was going to swap the glass with the one that came on by 907ie since it dipped to the wrong side for the UK. I had to dremel away some of the surrounding plastic work and by applying a heat gun and using a craft knife eventually managed to separate the glass but it was hard work. I wouldn't like to do it again and wouldn't recommend trying.
Incidentally, if you don't have the headlight on you will give the regulator a hard time as it has to burn off the excess power as heat, although that might be less of a problem than an undercharged battery.

Maybe - I'd just like something a bit brighter than a single LED blub - have a neat little row of leds that I was planning to put on the little shelf bit in front of the reflector

I don't really want to mount anything to the fairing if I can avoid it and down by the calipers is too low

when you buy the Yamaha "Twin light" you have plenty room to add some LED lights between the reflectors. you only need to make some kind of supportive brace.
