Thanks, Gerhard!
Didn't show up when I looked at ebay, good to know "Pantah" works also!
By the way, with regard to valve guides: is there an advise to use the original quality or some alternative version?
Frank
(hmm, just saw Rossi loosing valuable points in motogp, will be difficult for him to get his 10th world title, Valencia will be hot for 3 Spaniards)

Re: New member - in need of some advice ...
Hi, has someone experience with a Wilber shock on the Paso?
Wanted to rebuild my Öhlins DU-508 in as new state but unfortunately the piston rod is mortally wounded and the total cost incl. new cilinder, oil seals, o-rings, hose, adjustment wheel and a new heavier spring will cost me easily the price of a new shock.
So at this moment I consider to buy myself a Wilbers shock and would like to know if someone has experiences with Wilbers on the Paso.
The original spring is about 55 kg/cm and I think I will need more in the direction of 80 kg/cm.
Also will I miss the hydraulic pretensioner (I will get fully adjustable hi/low compression and rebound damping in return).
Hope to hear from you.
Frank

Hej Frank,
I only have experience on the Paso with the Marzocchi and the Öhlins. Hyperpro in the NL has good references. They don't have the paso enlisted, but maybe is available if you give them the specs:

Wilbers for sale:

Adjustable:

http://www.bikers-top-brands.de/shop/de ... 88-90-3025
Lots of money again Frank, you sure the Öhlins isn't repairable..? If it was me and it took approx €200 for a complete overhaul. I would take the Öhlins..

Hi Léon,
Problem is that the piston rod is mortally wounded
I did contact 2 companies who told me that for "our" shock, the piston rod is not available anymore.
So only 2 solutions remained: either rechrome and regrind the excisting rod ( ) or rebuild my shock with a new modern Öhlins piston rod incl. a new piston.
If you take into account the other parts I want to renew that would cost me around 700 euro's.
That's to much (o, forgot: no guarantees).
So decided to order a brand new one (Wilbers) but wanted (again) one including a hydraulic pretensioner.
So I called Wilbers (mr. André Peters in charge of special on-off items) only to find out the shock (listed for Paso 906) was not what I wanted.
This due to a MUCH reduced available stroke of only 53mm (original Öhlins has 78mm).
I won't bother you to explain why they did so (long time ago by the way).
Long discussion short: I convinced them to rebuild their original design so that I will get a 367mm shock (original is 365mm) with a 78mm stroke.
Also I will get the hydraulic pretensioner.
The only "negative" consequence is that it will have a piggy bag since I'm not a fan of emulsion shocks and Wilbers has only the piggy bag solution (Öhlins had the floating piston to separate the shock oil and the nitrogene gas).
Have ordered the spring in "Öhlins yellow" as compromise so the looks are similar to the original Öhlins shock.
Well due to the non original color it will take them 6 weeks to assemble my shock.
Have ordered and paid so now I will have to wait.
That means I have 6 weeks for my frame and aluminium rear swing parts to get ready, so that I can start building her up somewhere before Christmas (will be a nice holiday for my wife ).
To be continued ....

How will that fit?!The only "negative" consequence is that it will have a piggy bag
Re: New member - in need of some advice ...
Hi Gerhard,
You will have to wait until I get the shock
It will be mounted on the left side between the frame and the left rear side panel.
Fortunately the preload adjuster fits directly on the frame (the center distance is the same as the Öhlins).
Once mounted I will make some pictures
Today I got all my newly galvanized/yellow passivated parts back, tension bolts look like new!

Re: New member - in need of some advice ...
Almost forgot to say: removed the paint from the fairing (well, started).
Was surprized to see the Italians did a s****y paintjob.
No preparation, the fairing surface was not even abraded (made my life A LOT easier though).
Unfortunately the rest of the fairing: rear side panels, mudguard and top fairing are all much more difficult with regard to removing old paint (that's for later).
And a picture of my freshly chromed handrail (was a little expensive but I love the chrome of the first Paso's).
So, that's all for this week

Re: New member - in need of some advice ...
Have mounted my engine on the engine stand and now I want to clean it quickly and then remove the cilinder heads and cilinders/pistons.
To dismantle the cilinder heads, do I need specific tools (apart from the tool to remove the belt pulley)?
Want to dismantle the heads and get them mediablasted before a fresh respray and overhaul (hopefully only new valve guides are necessary .....).
Will ask a Ducati specialist to do the new valve guides, general inspection and set the valve clearance).
PLEASE let it be o.k. this time, sofar all parts that could be worn were!
O yeh, the rubber disks between the cooling fins, do I have to place them back after I have painted the cilinders/heads?
Assume it is only to reduce noise level (a necessity to meet the legal demands) but I have no idea if it makes a huge difference .....
The rubber disks are hardened and me intention is not to use them anymore (my wife's Monster 796 doesn't use them either).
Let's hear it ....
Frank

Re: New member - in need of some advice ...
bonsoir franck,
Pour moi le meilleur modèle est le 750 . Car c'est le modèle de transition de la marque Cagiva .
De plus il à été moins produit que les autres modèles et sa fiabilité est reconnu .
