UK Spec headlight

Post by steveT2 »

Does anyone know the correct P/N for a UK spec headlight? i have found one from a later sport but not sure if there is a difference? Ducati part number 520.4.001.1A from a 91-97 bike?

Thanks

Later model headlamps are not the same size as the 89-90 Sport. No other model of Ducati will fit, that I know of. I had the heartbreak of watching my headlamp crash to the pavement when I was working on my bike one day. Took a bit to find a new one. I even bought an 851 one, but that wasn't the right size either.

How is this for a memory!

Way back when the 750S was all the rage I found a feedback letter to a Motorcycle magazine asking what was suitable replacement for the headlight on a 750S, as the Ducati unit was super $$$. The magazine response was to fit a Hella replacement. The part number was Hella 1043. Google this and you get a lamp size of 200mm * 142mm. I think the 900SS used the same headlamp?

This a 30 year old memory, and even I don't trust it that much, so I will try and dig out the magazine and check it.

Cheers.

Sound promising Nick, great if you could dig out the mag article.

Hi G.

Well it does appear the porridge in my head isn't that accurate.

Found the letter to the bike doctor, but it was referencing the Paso headlight?

In defence of the steel trap (my mind), the Bike Doctor did own a 750S at the time, so there was more than a little extrapolating going on.

The Hella 1043 is way too small to be a Paso headlight anyway.

But I did get the part number right

Cheers.

who can check the dimensions of the headlight lens and overall depth of the headlight?
If you google "square headlight" you find some like this one:
http://www.treatland.tv/black-GUIA-squa ... ht-186.htm
I`m sure there`re others with UK spec that could be adapted but it would be important to know the dimensions to compare i.e. with:

it seems the Yamaha KOITO unit (which was also used on some older XT600 apparently) has similar dimensions. The remaining question is how it can be adapted.
The headlight adjuster screws are in the metal frame. One is positioned in the top left and the other on the bottom. You can see the small holes in the fairing.
