fule pump
hi there
i am a newbie to actually fumbling around with a bike, i am loving it - but i have some funny question.
does the fuel pump of the 907ie make sounds when the ignition switch is turned .. or do i confuse this memory with the 996 i owned?
i have a 907ie since 1997 and did not treat it very nicely, so it has been in storage for the last 7 years. my plan was now getting her up and running again and then have a ride to my duc dealer to change the belts and then possibly ride or sell her. (depending on my wife )
now changed all the fluids and the oilfilter and got a new batteries and replaced the gas out and in flow tubes, they dissolved at the ends and were messy. Now the engine turns but doesn't ignite, the plugs seem to work - i at least got electrocuted when i checked for sparks. my current guess / hope is that the problem is electric to the gas tank or the fuel pump - hence my initial question. Any input is appreciated.
cheers

Re: fule pump
Yes, the high pressure pumps should prime when you turn on the ignition. You might want to make sure you have power at the connector under the tank when the ignition is on.nlzero wrote:does the fuel pump of the 907ie make sounds when the ignition switch is turned .. or do i confuse this memory with the 996 i owned?
Re: fule pump

Re: fule pump
The lack of fuel pump operation may simply be the relay or, as an acquaintance with an 851 found out after leaving it unused for 10 years found out, the hoses in the tank may have disintegrated and gummed up the pump. Hopefully something simple.

Re: fule pump
hi Derek, hope so and the gummed up pump might well be since i had lots off gumm comming off the hoses on the fuel lines. just have a hard time dismanteling the pump and filter inside the tank... what a strange idea to stick that stuff in there..
Re: fule pump
Hi, so i checked the power and even though the cabling is poor and needs to be rewired the tank got power.
1. can / should i rewire myself or does anyone have a tip where to get Part #51010271A-Probewiring ?
2. what should my next step or test be? taking out the pump and cleaning it according to the manual in the manual section actually talking about a K-BMW?
3. and before i start further fumbling around with this tank, is there do or dont's on how to take this thing out of the tank and possibly put it in again later?
4. should i also change the filter, since it is out already?
yes i am in over my head ... oh and btw
5. what do you think about the belts they have nearly no mileage on them but obviously are older then 2 years- let change?
cheers Lorenz (wanted to attach pics but didtn work..)

Re: fule pump
"early" EFI designers where worried with high pressure pumps overheating so put them in the fuel tank to keep them wet... although it's not advantageous to heat the fuel. Also means that your pressure overflow/return can stay within the tank and part of the same assembly.nlzero wrote:hi Derek, hope so and the gummed up pump might well be since i had lots off gumm comming off the hoses on the fuel lines. just have a hard time dismanteling the pump and filter inside the tank... what a strange idea to stick that stuff in there..
