Any shock from the SS series will work. The 900SS shock is 6mm longer than the 750 unit. The longer shock will give you quicker steering, which is good for the Sport. Of course there is a bunch of aftermarket shocks for these bikes, and you can usually find a good deal on Ebay if you are patient. However, the spring and body of later shocks, and most aftermarket shocks, are wider, so they will interfere with the crankcase breather tank.

Cheers, Phil

You could also contact Ian Gowanloch at Ital Spares 02 6946 2626 and see what NOS items he may have, as Phil wrote the 900SS rear shock from that series will work, had one in my Sport (trackday bike) and it worked very well indeed, it is 6 mm longer as mentioned, but drops straight in without any drama and usually doesn't cost to much.

Well that answers the question of what length shock was on the '89 900. Seems same as the 750 Sport, and the later 750ss.
