Problems for starting the paso ...

Post by josecarlos »

Hi all,
I have got some problems with the starter. When I push the red button I hear the starter spinning, but it doenst move the engine. After some tries it moves and the engine starts. I suppose there will be a "one way bearing" or something similar.

It is frustating pushing and pushing the starting in the morning ... and it is going to worst

You have a sprag clutch spring problem. Go to first topic on 750 forum, which is "stickyed", By Jon Slocum. Halfway through first post is topic"sprag clutch". there is your problem and cure.

I have heard, that this sprag clutch problem is very often in many Ducatis.... Need to open left cover and take flywheel out. I have to fix it also soon in my 750 Paso

Not really a hard job if you have an impact wrench for flywheel nut. Should be easier on 750 than my 907 as there is no cooling system to deal with. Just be sure to keep track of which way is out on clutch and do not remove rollers. Just shorten spring and replace.

Is this a sudden problem or have you been dealing with it for a while?

Make sure that battery is fully charged.

Did this problem start after an oil change? A new type or weight of oil?

Let us know.

I have being dealing with it for some time, but after the oil change it has gone to worst ...
The oil is Shell advance Ultra 4, the same but new :)
And the battery is new, a 14 amp sealed battery.

Best regards,

Sounds like you need to fix the sprag. It's not that hard of a job. Also a good time to lighten or replace the flywheel with a lighter one.
