91 907 Gas Cap won't come off
Just bought this bike and I can't get the gas cap off. I lifted the lever and turned it 90 degrees and then rotated the cap 90 degrees, but it won't come out. What am I doing wrong???
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
--Charlie

you can rotate the cap? Lift the lever, turn it and lift the cap (w/o rotating it)

wait I'm wrong. You have a 907IE. That cap is different compared to the P750 & 906 as it has a hinge (or is that only on later models?!). You should just have to turn the key. Maybe you'll have to press the cap down a little when turning the key.

There is no key required - no keyhole in this cap.

On the P750 it's as I said. Lift lever, turn 90° counterclockwise, lift off cap. There's no way it can rotate. I guess this is the one you have (w/o the lock)

It doesn't come off. There must be something wrong. Thanks for the input.

worst case remove the eight bolts and have a look at the bottom side.

I figured it out - I removed the whole assembly and found out that the cap has to be removed at a perfectly vertical angle in order to come out. thanks again for your input!

Re: 91 907 Gas Cap won't come off
yeah, my 907 had the same issue. the inside stamping was made at very tight tolerance to the gas cap and a sharp edge. I took the assembly off the tank and dressed some of the edges with a file to allow easier removal. Insertion was fine. Removal is now easier.
