Re: how do i find year made from frame numbers
DGM5240 OM is not part of the VIN.
DGM = italian DOT
5240 OM = homologation number
What's the number stamped in the headstock?
If you can't figure it out you should contact Ducati. If you're lucky you'll get a quick reply.

Re: how do i find year made from frame numbers
The information I could find in the books I have is, that in the first production year 1241 bikes was produced.
Beginning with the frame number 751161 the new oil cylinders was introduced. The blue/red version was only proudced in 1988. Change of the fairing desgin was after the frame number 751052.
I read somewhere, that the red/blue design was changed because Claudio Castiglioni didn't like it and was replaced by the red/silver one. Whether this is true I have some doubt, because my 750 Sport is a blue/red one with frame number 1002. As I knew the first owner and the Ducati dealer who sold the bike, I know she was always a red/blue one.
If your bike is a red/blue one, I believe it was produced in 88
Greeting
Volker
