1990 750 Sport for sale
Hello, I'm new to this forum. I have a friend who has a 1990 Ducati 750 sport for sale. It has been sitting since 1999. It was parked because it was low-sided into a guard rail. 1 mirror is missing and blinkers are broken off on one side, also the fairing is cracked and fairly scrapped up on one side. I would like to buy the bike and they told me to make an offer. I offered $250 as the bike is in really rough shape, did I low ball them? Or does that sound reasonable?

Re: 1990 750 Sport for sale
I ended up paying $350 for it, not a bad deal at all. Only problem is, it didn't have a key in it. The bike used to belong to a friend of the owner, and they assumed the key was in it up until the day I picked it up. If they can't locate the original owner and the key am I screwed? On the plus side it has already been converted to deltoro carbs, has aftermarket slip-on exhaust and some sort of aftermarket rear shock with an external reservoir. The bike really isnt in bad shape for being sent into a guard rail.

Sounds like a good buy to me.
You've got 2 fairly simply choices with the key, just buy a new or s/h ignition switch unit if you can find one and swap it out or more realistically take the ignition switch to a really good locksmith to cut a new key from the barrel.
Someone else may have a better suggestion.

Challenger Mate... just cough up and get a 2nd hand Ignition you got the bike for a very very good price! here in NZ that would set us back at least 2000 NZD

Re: 1990 750 Sport for sale
$350 is cheap specially considering F1 silencers, a Corbin seat, aftermarket shock, Dell Orto carbs or just the value of the clutch cover. A tank will cost you tho. Hopefully the fork and frame are still straight. The dent in the tank indicates the steering stop is bent or broken. Did the stanchion tube hit or dent the frame? It would be interesting to check also if the front rim is still straight.

Re: 1990 750 Sport for sale
Interestingly the steering stops appear fine, it was actually the clip-on handle bar that rotated on the fork tube that allowed it to contact the tank. I am going to attempt to have the tank repaired. I did see a NOS unpainted tank for sale on Ebay for $500 but If im going to have to paint a tank I might as well repair and repaint the one I've got. Not sure if the front wheel is still strait or not, it seems to be, the brakes run true in the calipers, and it was driven home after the accident with "no issues". Ill have to put it on my friends tire balancer and see if it runs true or not.

With the fairing there are a several choices, those being repair and repaint, source new or 2nd hand, have made aftermarket replacement panels where needed or put the fairing aside for the time being and try something like this or similar.
Just food for thought

Corbin actually made seats for the Sport once. It's not adapted from another bike. Maybe ACM seats in Australia can make something. Theirs looks quite similar to Corbin.
