stock or euro/ fim chip

Post by 1564 »

i have my 907 set up with open air box and staintune open exhaust and co set at 2% at mufflers..question i have read in ducati books that euro chip is not set up for mod. air box and open custom exhaust can hinder performance...my chip is fim, what is the differerece in all three chips and which one is needed on a bike set up with air box mod. and open pipes....

As I understand it, the stock US chip is set up for some EPA test. The Euro chip is set up to make the bike run like it should with the stock parts.

What you need with an open airbox and pipes is a Stage 1 chip. The FIM chip is probably a stage 1 only because there isn't much of demand for any other aftermarket 907 chip... it would be silly to produce a chip that matches what the factory already provided, and there aren't many 907s running around with heavily modified engines requiring a stage 2 or whatever chip.

"Stage 1" may not be the term FIM uses, but the principle will still be the same...

Craig is right mainly, but FBF uses that "stage 1" and FIM uses only letter/number code, BUT ALL FIM Chips are designed with NORMAL air filter and open pipes!!! FBF Stage 1 is made for free flow air filter, like K & N(or opened airbox cover) and open pipes. I have much more tuned 907IE engine and that needeed FIM Chip, FIM AMB and it was tuned with FIM software  . If You have more tuned engine, then need adjust more system and then need FIM chip, what is possible to tune with software. Then You NEED ALSO FIM AMB to keep that tuned system in memory, when ignition keys are taken out from lock !!! I think, You have quite good setup with normal FIM without AMB and no need to buy K & N, normal Ducati filter can do good job. Btw, "only snorkkels away" is better, than open airbox !!! My one 907IE friend tested that in Dyno with his bike. And there is horrible noise coming from inlets, if airbox cover is totally opened, when open throttle hardly.... hardy and hardly.... Who drives Ducati so??? hahahahahah... EVERYONE, who understand, what for Ducati is made !!! :funny:

I have heard from one FIM dealer here in Finland, that they dont answer to questions by mail. (cause too many customers want to know everything => they dont have enough peopple to do that...) I think, they dont even have email address in web site... But maybe some FIM dealer can contact to FIM

Ok, there was this info:

We have an unmanagable amount of email, so please contact your nearest distributor first if you have a question about eprom suitability for your motorcycle. If you need to email us directly, please FAX on +61 3 5237 4209 and we will email you with our return email address.
