Ignition Switch electrical mod.

Post by Willo »

To any who have done the modification where a relay takes the power load off the ignition switch. I have the circuit diagram. Where did you physically place the relay and where did you cut the Bn Bk wire? A photo would be nice.

I cut the wire close to the fuse box and mounted the relay under the seat.

Be sure to insulate the wires with a decent sheathing especially if you run them back under the seat

Higgy, those plastic conduits are no good.

the best I found are the poliester split ones, they can be fitted on the existing loom and secured with the fabric tape they use nowadays.

There are different brands , but the best I think are made by HellermanTyton and the mode series is the "Twist-IN".

Here are a self explanatory video.

TO secure the sleeves I used a fabric loom tape I got from Amazon, it is quite common and once fitted and "cured" you well need to cut it to take it off.

A friend's father works for a local wiring loom Manufacturer of Deere Industrial equipmentall I have to do is ask. He always gives me way more than I need from from their left overs headed for the recycle bin

BTW I have no issues with the plastic product as it beats bare wires and looks great available everywhere and in custom colors.

Why do you guys want to run wires from the ignition switch? All the wires you need access to are under the seat at the fuse box. Take a Tee off the red blue wire at the back of the fuse box from the main fuse to pin 30 of a 30A relay. Cut the brown wire that goes from the ignition switch to the switched fuse. This can be a few cm from the fuse box Connect the ignition switch side of the brown wire to pin 85 of the relay and side that goes the fusebox to pin 87. Connect Pin 85 to ground and mount the relay in a suitable location, that's it. At ignition on the relay points will close providing power to the switched fuse, bypassing the ignition switch and no need for long wires
