Red or Black

Post by rolduc »

Hi everybody, I'm new on this forum. I was searching for a 907 I.E. in Belguim and I found some. At this moment there are 4 options : 3 reds and 1 black.
The best case is the black one from 1992 with 17650 km ( 11 000 mls ). No damnage, no accidents, dry and clean engine. Only the rear tire most be changed. The belts are replaced and the valves are adjusted at 11 000 km. The oil + filters are changed at 17 000 km. It has also a new battery.
There are Bos exhausts and the original exhausts ( silver color ) are availlable.
I can buy this 907 I.E. for € 2750 say $ 3500 or £ 1850.
The problem I've with this nice machine is the color. In my hart I want a red one but those I've found are not so clean and are lightly damnaged and have between 45 000 and 70 000 km's on the counter. The prices are included the parts I need to make them technical in order the same or higher than € 2750,00.
So my question is : What should you all do, buy the black one or one of the reds. It's only the color that makes me hesitate to buy it.
Best regards, Rolduc

I think you should wait untill a good red one becomes available. It will happen eventually.
We bikers love just to see our pride and joy in the garage even if we are not riding it, therefore if you buy the black one I think you would end up regretting it every time you see a decent red one advertised in the future.
The visual appeal is a big part of the desirability and buying process for us bikers. Some people will say black is rarer and more exclusive however this is not the same as being more attractive and desirable. Old 70`s MZ two strokes are rare and exclusive now.
Some may prefer the look of the black models and that is absolutely fine for those people, but if YOU don`t don`t buy one!
There is no doubt that certain colours suit certain vehicles, hence all the red Ferraris and silver Mercs.
There is also the tradition of Italian vehicles being red of course.

Red or Black

Hi Rolduc, The black 907 sounds like an excellent condition bike - with only 17000km on it, you should not have the wear and tear problems of the other bikes. I don't think there is anything wrong with the black colour - it's just not red that everyone expects on a Ducati (Cagiva Ducati that is - before that, they wern't all red). I suspect the colour does not matter as much when you are riding the bike - and that the most important bit I guess? Regards, Chris.

BUY IT!
You will not repent of it.
Later, if you want, you could buy another fairing (used or "Airtech") that you could paint red.
So, when you want, you could have your bike red or black!
You have to think that isn't easy to find a very good bike after 14 years (only 3.300 made)!
No matter, the black ones are very rare.

Hi everybody,
Thanks for your reply's.
I've desided to buy the black one because he's like new ( 17600 km's ) with no damnage or occidation on it.
Above that, I've bought it for a good price.
In my point off vieuw this was the best deal that I could make.

The black one is so cheap and with records/low mileage....rare colour....buy it and get a red one too in a while when one becomes available.

My vote is for you to buy a red 907. I mean, why not? Then you'd be like all the other 907 owners out there. Why on earth would you want a black 907? Why would YOU want to stand out from the crowd or be different???

Hi everybody,
I like very much the black 907 of the pic.
It's really stunning.
My 907 is red but if I had found a better one black, I would have bought it.
So, don't doubt and buy the black one

Hi everybody,
I've the 907 i.e. ( black ) in my garage since yesterday. It's allready cleaned and polished and it's verry beautifull. Next step is 20 000 km maintenance and after that I 'll have a great nearly new Ducati for litlle money. The third in a row after 888SP4 and 919SPS and it's not finished yet because I can feel right now that the row will grow with more Ducati's ( my disire: a 750 F1 and a 999 R )
