What about shimming the tail piece to even up the gap to the side panels?

Done that. The problem is that then the seat back doesn't align, and the whole thing just doesn't look straight if you shim it enough to balance both sides. I took the shims back out. It really doesn't look too bad the way it is. I just want to fully understand why it's that way.

Hi Sam, I got my left side panel to fit by putting an 1/8" aluminum spacer between the frame and the taillight assembly. The taillight lens actually lines up better to the tail section and I have a gap between the lens and the side panel :thumbup:
