Couple of months ago, I was bidding on a restored 900S2 which I was going to ship here. Got quotes from I think Wellington actually, cost was as I said, about $600, may have been $700, but nowhere near what you are suggesting. I will dig out the quote and PM you the details.
blazing928 wrote:Hmmm nice find, it looks OK, but I don't like the black on the screen. Most likely too far away and too hard.
I think I need to get a RAW approved importer to import it, more costs to add, but I will call them on Monday and check the prices
Napier is in nowwhere land, a few hours from Wellington, so shipping is just that bit harder!
I have been searching for freight costs, where do you get shipping for $600? Cheapest so far is around $1600 one way.
I got quoted $400 just from Sydney depot to inner Melb last week!
cheers

Nigel,

Napier is 350km north of Wellington. However, they do have a significant shipping port, so freight could be relatively straight forward. Especially if the seller is willing to help out a bit and say deliver the bike to the shipping agent.
Cheers,
Fraser.

Well it would seem that ADR and DOTARS and RAW will prevent the personal importation of this bike.
Pre89 only needs a engineeres certificate, post 89 needs a compliance plate and there are only 3 motorbike RAW certified dealers in OZ and none will now do personal imports.'
The reason is that , 'that perfect bike' is not and when presented with the cost they usually get so many problems they have now stopped doing personal imports.
So as the bike is a 91 model, no compliance plate ,no rego, bike returned or destroyed!
You can't even part it out!
They said that there used to be about 130 importers in OZ, now there are three!
Good old aussie regs strike again
thanks for your help and offers, back to the classifieds.

Hmmmm, while I would like $11k for mine, no it isnt for sale, I like it too much.

As for importations, there are regular shipments of imported, used bikes coming out of the states to Oz. There is a guy who advertises regularly on Ebay. Cost is $900 inclusive. From what I have read on his site, the only additional cost is GST on the cost of the bike in Aussie dollars at time of purchase.

I was also wrong about the cost of importation from NZ. It appears as though there is a little daylight robbery happening across the creek. Total cost was about $600 for Aus importation and about $750 for a bike to leave EnZed. Almost twice as much as from the US of A and about 1/3rd the distance.

Havent seen the bike for sale in Canberra, will check it out.

Keep looking. Something will turn up.

Anything to do with Ducati's over here is dear. Its criminal the difference in pricing of used bikes & parts between Aussie and America, you only have to search on ebay to find out. :,(
