New Paso (to me) Familiar Problem (To You) TYRES - advice

Hey Tool,
nice collection of tires. Storing tires should be kept as cool as possible, and they should be stored on their sides and stacked if possible. Storing them on edge will create flat spots over time. And of course, avoid sunlight. (UV).

yeah your right , but at the moment I aint spoilt for storage . Im gunna look real stupid if they are all knackered by the time I use them. I turned down an offer of nz$1500.00 for a pair , some shiney arsed dickhead with a shed full of dukes wanted to "restore" his 1988 851 strada (tri colour you know) , all very tea and cucumber sandwiches , Tally ho , must dash

If I were you, I'd sell him a pair to pay for your 17" conversion. If it takes you 2-3 years to wear out a set of tires, you have 6-10 year supply. Are you going to trust those tires in another 6-10 years? A modern 4 year old tire scares me, but I hear tell that they breed men with more gusto on the bottom half of the globe.

I dunno so much about this Old tyre stuff , sure they do deterioate but I know of heaps of old tyres that still work . I say that as long as they havn't started to perish or split , give em a whirl. The tyres on Diannes car are more than 4 years old . And whats this " 2 to 3 years to wear out a tyre " sheeeit when I am able to ride ....... any excuse .A rear michelin wouldnt see 2 to 3 months on the paso , I have never quite got to 5000km on a rear , front will see 7000km , same with the SS just on diablo's.
Im lucky in that the company I work for allows me to charge them for running costs if I use the bike to service machines out the back of beyond , so a few tools , a educated geuss at some parts and thats the saturday ride sorted, and the customers love it coz no one else will go to Pakawa or Keneperu

I don't know if i should laugh or cry after seeing this cupboard of Michelins! Are you sure they are safely tucked away? A man sometimes creates for himself a false sense of security about these things and it starts to naw at him, work at his psyche 'till he can't sleep and the stress of his big secret and the guilt just begins to eat him alive and finally he'd rather just get rid of all those monstrous tires and let others assume the heavy burden. Randy , you are so right , the guilt has been eating away at me for to long now , just last week I saw one of the local paso boys trying to negotiate a round about on harley tyres ,nearly broke me .. ... right there . Just as I was gaining my feet ,shoulders weighed down with the burden of guilt, I heard a sound , a horrible noise , a rubbing screeching noise , as I turned to look I could see Dave on his paso , hi profile tyres rubbing on swing arm , chain and front guard and the smell of burning rubber as he tried to hold a straight line on the way past ,sweat was pouring off me ,I thought my temples were going to rupture, when he later told me he did an accidental front wheelie when the tyre hit the front cylinder head , , I broke down completely .
Randy , mate , buddy , where can I send these tyres ?

Having just seen the pic' of Mr Tool's cupboard i wonder if this shortage of 16" tyres is a myth, a fantasy, a phallacy even! if one in three Paso, 750 sport etc. owners had a similar cupboard then indeed there would be a world wide shortage, there is obviously plenty of rubber to go around; i say to Mr Tool and all those other
hoarders, give a Duke mate a pair of rubbers for Christmas and let all those Oscam's turn once more in 2010, Amen.
