There is actually a tool specifically called a spanner used on a certain kind of retainer ie a type of screw drive that consists of two holes in the screw head and two pins on the tool :beer: :beer:

a spanner is any nut or bolt undoing or tightening tool. open ended spanners. ring spanners. adjustable spanners etc etc. i believe the americans and some others call them wrenches. :cool: :) :thumbup:

Spanner is also the name of a certain type of penis implant used to sort out prostrate issues :shock: :shock: and no I do not have experience with it,so far my equipment still works( head you off at the pass Mctool :lol: :lol: ) I once had a nieghbor who worked for a mill that made all sorts of impants,stents and spanners :thumbup:

here in Aus anything to do with mechanical things we call it spanner...unless you talk about plumbing stuff, then its a pipe wrench :beer:
