The tire is 1.6 cm tahler then the 160/60/16 that space is available on my paso so i think it will fit.

It will not. The 150/80 is already a tight fit as it is higher. A 160/80 may fit if you extend the swingarm.

I just fitted the metzeler 180/60/16 me 880 marathon tyre to my 750.bolts straight on no clearance issues with chain nor swingarm.Someone else posted recently that this was the case.I know its a cruiser tyre but there are no modifications required to anything and thats just the way I like it J.

You can make front sprocket spacer by machining another sprocket down mill of teeth have done before , It means splines have to match up .raced sidecars and did this when tires to wide put over 200hp on this never failed.

Just purchased 89/906 have waited 22years to get it ,have other dukes all the same ,have there own problems ,they just get into your blood and you learn to fix them its half the fun .

Interesting Information. I thought that for all 180 / 60 tires one would face the clearance problem with the chain. We have hearded in this fourm that is may be more (cf. Avon) or less (Shinko) severe, depending on the brand.

Which front tire are you using? Any experience with the Metzler Marathon rear so far?

However, there is no could combinations from Metzler possible, the Metzler Sportec M3 130 / 70 (size) is rather a racer's tires, the Marathon just the other way around. I would not expect that couple to be a very good combination.

Any informations in the forum availiable of tire combinations with the 180 / 60 Metzler Marathon 880?

The front is a dunlop 130/70/16.mixing different brands is not an issue here in Australia by law.
Its a bit hard to judge the behaviour of the metzeler rear at the moment as my ohlins rear shock is completely buggered and as soon as I start getting really aggressive I get a bit of a bouncy / high siding thing happening under acceleration. :shock:The pirelli I had on there done the same thing exept it was old and I didn't trust pushing it too hard. Just dropped the shock out and will get a kit for it this week,then I will get a better idea.From the riding I have done,it seems fine.I would say that it will withstand a lot more than I can throw at it, without misbehaving.Most modern tyres will . J.

Kitted my ohlins shockie on the weekend and tested out the metzeler 180/60/16 - dunlop sportmax gpr 200F 130/70/16 combo properly.I travelled on some pretty ordinary roads with heavy vehicle ruts mid corner and plenty of humps and bumps,(our normal country roads over here).No clearance issues at all,and there was no hint of slipping or misbehaving other than the normal high side under brakes 16 inch wheel thing.I'm pleased with the combination so far,time will tell how they wear though.

One thing that may come in handy to others,the Ohlins distributor sent a print out of specs for the ohlins as fitted to the paso 750,with all details needed for a service of the model,seal nos,valve nos,pressures,etc.I got shock oil all over it but I think it should still scan,I'll try. J

This will help push your chainline out a bit. Don't see them come up too often. O.E on the early versions of the Sport before they put the 3mm shims between the frame and the engine, and I think racing bikes to run a 180 rear tire. Not mine, nor do I know the seller.

so which is the better tire? shinko 757 journey 180/60r16? or metzeler me880 180/60r16?

Nothing to change with metzeler,but more expensive.

as far as I can tell from this and other forums, the mounted size for the 180/60r16 tires goes in this way, from largest to smallest:

Avon>Dunlop>Shinko>Metzeler

with the large tires requiring shaving and/or sprocket/swingarm mods, and the small Metzeler needs no mods. which tires are the best? also bridgestone makes a 180/60r16, has anyone tried it? where does it fit in size wise? probly like the dunlop...

I'm putting Metzler Lasertecs on my 750 Sport. 120/80-16 and 150/80-16.

Front is on, rear will be here tomorrow. Will keep you updated with how it goes.

I have just fitted a set of AVON Azaro ST tyres to my 1990 750 Ducati Paso. They are a nice fit. I raised the front mudguard 10mm prior to fitting just in case . The chain had to be lengthened a couple of links and the rear sprocket changed to 40 teeth (now running 16\40). The bike seems to handle well, if not better than with the old Mitchelns.

As well as this has worked out it was not an easy road. I have read this forum for many years looking for the right combination. Many thanks to all those who have posted great information.

To raise the mudguard I had to drop out a fork leg as the nuts were turning in the plastic mudguard. Once the mudguard was out I replaced the nuts and filed out the mounting bracket to allow it to sit a little higher on the fork leg. I bought longer bolts and made so tube spacers (better than washers much easier to fit}.

After I ordered the tyres it rained non-stop for two weeks. The night before I took the bike in to the shop to have them fitted I went to start the bike to make sure that it would start in the morning as it had not been run in a while. The starter failed, so on the weekend I got the trailer out take the bike to the shop. Before I could get it on to the trailer it fell over and smashed the indicator and scraped the fairing.

The starter needed new brushes which had to be ordered from the UK, they were out of stock and had to have them made. Then Customs seized them and wanted more than the bushes were worth to inspect them. I did manage to convince them to just let them go.

So the tires are fitted, the starter is fixed and bike rides great. Next I will have to get the bike down to the paint shop to get it looking new again.
