I may not be the best person to summarize but I will try. It appears that there were 2 different pistons available (I believe they are interchangable into the clutch covers) part number 19520023B(as pictured on the left in post a few before this one) comes with piston, spring and seal but no bearing or button , roller skate bearing easily found for a few dollars but the button must be locally made by a machinist. I just ordered this piston from local duc shop for about $45 US I bought the bearing on ebay for $3 dollars and found a friend that will machine the button for me. the second part number 19520011B (pictured on right above) also is available from Ducati for $175 US although it has a slightly different construction it essentially comes with piston, seal, bearing, and button (dont know about spring) FYI my machinist friend and I have decided to make my button out of a hardened bronze as opposed to a harder steel.I am buying the bronze material and will have enough to make several more. we may make a few extra so let me know if anyone would be interested in one, for a reasonable price. I am curious about these 2 different types of pistons, does anyone know if one style was for early pasos and the other for later or maybe one style was a later replacement when ordered for spares????? I think I'm on track to get my bike back on the road THANKS SO MUCH!!! for the help I'll keep everyone posted when this project gets wrapped up John

Can someone try to summarize the different pistons so we can place this in the FAQ??
it is in the FAQs, first page

G.

PS: I`m still wondering about Johns piston as I`ve never seen that one before.

could it be that the piston or cover was replaced by one of the past owners ? The original Paso piston didn`t look like that and as I heard of only 2 bikes ever with this piston this could be an explanation.

The picture is from the hardcopy of the Stein-Dinse catalogue, but I found it also on their webiste

http://www.sd-tec.de/catalog/product_in ... c1bd523e47

Interesting is that there it says it replaces 19520011A & 037016460. (which isn`t mentioned in the hardcopy) 037016460 is the part number of the 'piston only' mentioned in the P750 parts catalogue.
This confirms what my dealer told me long time ago, that one today can get only the complete piston assy also if you want to replace the piston only. Good that he took the time to check his stock and found the other one.

I have only owned my bike for a year so yes it certainly may have been replaced in the past. It seems to have been working just fine with no leaks or other issues untill the bearing started to go. John

FYI its a small world. someone is parting out a paso on ebay here in the US one of the items they are selling is the clutch assy with clutch cover and I do believe the throw out bearing assy pictured is the odd piston bearing assy. that we have been talking about on this thread

Mission accomplished my Duck is up and running and now it only has the normal funny noises that all the ducs have. Thanks once again for all the help, It seems simple now but I don't know how I would have gotten it done otherwise. for those who are still confused please see the two links to photos, the first shows the three parts that some others may need to fix the same problem I had.the second photo shows all the parts assembled. please note the roller skate bearing (it really is a roller skate bearing) p.n. skf 608zz I bought 2 on ebay with shipping for about ($10 US) then the piston assy. 19590023B (ducati p.n.) as I understand it you cant buy the seal separately so you have to buy the assy. (piston, seal, spring) bought from local ducati shop for about ($45 US) then the "button" which is unobtainable now, a friend of mine machined it for me, we used a steel/bronze alloy, on the hardness scale it fell on the lower end of the steels. we used the dimensions that were posted earlier in this thread. it took him about an hour to cut and I had to buy a lot more material than I needed to make it ($25 US) by the way the bearing pushed in by hand (snug but no interference fit) and the button was machined also to go in by hand but no interference fit. after that...... bleed the clutch system(AAAAAAGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!) I wont say anymore other than get a vacuum bleeder , youll use it for other projects eventually. Now that its past 100 degrees f I'm ready to go riding again Johnnie

they looked the same, they were at least identical in height. so I used the new one.
By the way, if anyone is interested in a button, my friend has agreed to make some more if anyone is interested. we thought $30 US would at least pay for his time , we have enough material to make a few more so let me know. Johnnie

FINAL FOLLOW UP, I have been out on several rides since getting the bike back together and everything is working great. unfortunately I have just sold the bike. A nerve problem in my hand made that the only practical route to take. I loved riding that Paso , I wish I had bought one back in the 80s and been able to enjoy it thru those years instead of just the last year. All the bikes I have owned each had different qualities that I liked and some of those bikes have a special place in my heart to this day, but the paso had a wonderful combination of qualities that definitely made it my favorite. Great job with this web site and keep the paso alive, I will look at everybike that rides by hoping its another enthusiast on a paso. John
