bit of character.....

I'd turn the engine over a few times when I first got it to check for spark, then it was turned over a few times when I did the valve adjustment and replaced the timing belts. I have no idea what happened to the bike for the four or more years that I was told it wasn't running, but.......I'm really starting to think that the smoking issue was me putting too much oil in the crankcase. The sight-glass for the oil level is nearly impossible to see through, so I'll try to correct this visibility issue in the very near future.paso750 wrote:In the long time the Paso stood did you ever squirt some oil in the cylinder and turned over the eninge by hand once in a while ?
If the cylinder wall becomes dry as the oil film becomes too thin this could create some smoke and/or defect (piston rings).
Sorry, I forgot. I'll try to add that....soon.paso750 wrote:PS: still missing the BACK button
The sight glass on the Paso engine is inside a huge, 36mm nut. Are you saying that the early SS and Monster bikes have a similar oil level sight-glass that is interchangeable? My '98 ST2 uses a press fit glass that fits into the side cover, and it is a smaller diameter than the one in the Paso.paso750 wrote:the oil level glass is no problem to find as it`s the same on numerous other Ducs. (Supersport/Monster) the one like on the Paso doesn`t exist anymore the actual ones are completely in clear plastic.

Oil draining out, open left side of engine(cover off) and then You can reach last 2 of those 3 M6 screws, what holds starter in place. Someone have done it olis inside, but then need to turn safely bike to right side...Desmo_Demon wrote:Anyone know how easy/difficult it is to remove the starter?
Thanks!....That's what I was reading for the newer engines. I figured the Pantah was the same way.Finnpaso wrote:Oil draining out, open left side of engine(cover off) and then You can reach last 2 of those 3 M6 screws, what holds starter in place.
