Nah , you should keep the guru thing . Us smart ones dont let things get to the point where we find ourselves needing to change our mains roadside,( anyone with sprocket bolt marks on their swing arm go stand in the corner )

Man, can I relate to this.

I bought my Paso as a non-running, misused, abused, and sorely tampered with bike and spent two years working on the poor old girl before I even had her back in one piece and finally fired the life back into her...I bought my wife's ST2 with a stumbling issue that I casually tinker with on occasion. I'll kick it, yet....and recently, I bought a Bimota that seems to have decided to drop a cylinder (no spark on the horizontal cylinder) while in transit to my house.

For some things that I've repaired on the side of the road - clutch disassembly from a loose hub nut, broken chain, fried voltage regulator, various electrical issues, flat tires, and one of the temporary fixes I like to "story tell" is when my stator went bad on my ST2 while 150 miles from home. My wife's R1 (carbs) uses the same battery, so...I swapped both batteries, push started her R1, and while I rode on the charged battery, she was charging the drained one. We swapped batteries twice to limp the bike home and avoided a costly tow bill or costly dealer service bill.

Hi buddy have been reading this with interest and following the threads when able thanks to bitch of a time at present.

may I offer some hope and refer to what Mc tool posted earlier my own bike when purchased had also the very same problem as yours ( I paid £500.00 for mine) with the exception that the case had not been shattered only case inner fins had been sheared.

the rider had been thrown off the bike I believe as the chap I had purchased it from, had done the fairing repairs himself after buying from the rider.

The important thing here is that the engine had a nasty knock in 2nd and 3rd gear which sounded like a floating piece of metal. infact it is a damaged selector fork that has buckled under the sudden strain of the locked chain.

In which case before you drop the heads off ensure that the noise is from the engine - have you pressure tested? And not from the gearbox. Sadly it will mean an engine split but complete gearbox internals are fairly common on ebay and it would be nice to get that repair looking clean and tidy.

You could just swap the motor, as you have seen there are engines out there available.

Either way there lots of folk on here that will help in any way they can.

stiv, it seems you didn´t read his last post. Bike`s gone, but who knows maybe it`s next owner will continue this thread. :)

Oops have just been dipping into the site recently due to work and family issues,. When I checked this post it had only loaded as far as page 3 therefore hence my post, just checked in to day and thought my post hadn't registered then assumed/realised what has occured..very strange ?!!!

About the bike though a shame but who knows maybe they will continue......lets hope it's not been parted already?
