Hi everybody,
I'm reading a book concerning the maintenance of the Ducks.
In this book, I've read about the alternator nut issue: in the pre 2001 Ducks the alternator nut could loose torque making great damages.
Have someone heard it?

many times.... That was common problem in early ST2:s 97-99. Problem was, that there is shim plate under nut nad they put wrongly that shim in factory and bolted flywheel on. If Luck, then nothing happened, but if that shim went to its right place, when driving, then nut get loose with very bad noise! Nut cant get totally off from threads, but it hits to cover with not so nice noise... That shim is very importand to put to MIDDLE of AXLE, cause it can be put also to "side of axle".

Ciao Annti,
have you checked your Ducks about it?
After 14 years I think this problem wouldn't appear... I hope :ugh: :ugh: :ugh:

I have checked my 750 Paso and 907, but not yet ST4s. You dont have anything to worry, cause for so many years havent happen anything, but SURELY, when need to open left side of engine, then have to be very careful with shim plate(if flywheel must take off) for some reason. ..."dont worry, be happy"...Francesco

That was most ST2(4) series problem, not so much Paso
