Bin Your Weber

Hi All,

Have owned a 750 Paso for the last 2.5 years and it has had the original Weber carb. After installing a Holly fuel pressure regulator in the first few months and regularly cleaning the carb it all ran fairly well, no real complaints. Recently I’ve obtained a set of Mikuni 38mm carbs and accessories from a 1994 900SS. Gave these a good clean and fitted a Dynajet Stage 2, jet and needle set along with some pod type air cleaners. (Along with all the major service items like timing belts, valve shim adjustment, the JS wiring mods, etc).
Anyway, the bike started easily and after a short warm up settled down to a steady 900rpm idle. Have now had a chance to take the bike out for a 50km run, to sort out any problems that might appear. There were none. The change to performance is amazing, it does not even seam like the same bike. It accelerates in 5th like it used to in 4th with absolutely no hesitation.
The intention behind the installation of the Mikunis was to remove the stumble/hesitation around 4000 rpm which was a feature of the Weber. Not only has this completely disappeared, but there is a substantial boost to overall performance. It will even sit and idle at the traffic lights and not stall.
In summary if you ever had any doubts about replacing the Weber with Mikunis or Dellortos etc, then forget them, do the change, you will never regret it.
The intake roar when giving it full open throttle is addictive, you just want to keep doing it. Suggest you get some.
Regards,
Fraser.

With such a performance increase you've got to be seeing a drop in economy... but then I suppose that isn't a huge deal maker with a motorbike anyway.

I have got a set on the shelf awaiting an engine to stick them onto... spring will be the time to go hunting for bikes being broken for spares.

I recently won a pair off ebay; waiting for an R&R on the bench and then some quality time w/ the Paso in the garage. Can't wait to put them in. That'll leave me with two Webers on the shelf ... one of which I still plan to put Jon Fiore's Recipe for Weber Success into place, some rainy day ... ;)

Glad to hear from a satisfied customer about the Mikunis all the same. :) What'd you do in terms of airbox/airfilter, mounting, jet kit/jet #s and exhaust?

Thanks

I have just finished the change of carburettors from Weber to Mikunu (900 SS) and bought a Dynojet stage 1 for a monster 750. After adjustin the carbs (vacuum) and Ilde (900 rpm), the engine won't go past 6000 rpm. We beleave the jets are to small. Now we try the 900 jets.

Do you have any tips?

Harigeharry,

No tips I'm sorry. But the Dynajet kit I used was a stage 2 for a 750SS. It came with 2 different sized sets of main jets. The recommendation was the larger ones if using pod type air filters (which I was).
The bike started easily and after a warm up settled down to a steady idle. It pulls cleanly to red line, no hesitation.

The bike has an after market exhaust system (do not know the brand, it was on the bike when I got it) and the original air box is completely removed. Just have the foam pod type cleaners.

It's been so sucessful I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner.

My paso was fitted with a pair of mikuni 38mm flatslides, and a ferracci exaust. all done by previous owner, and I have never ridden any other than my own so I cant say what change the upgrades have made. but I know this: that bike will pull very strong anywhere in the rev range with no NO flat spots. not to mention that the ferracci exaust sounds amazing!
