mikuni float adjustment

Do the floats have to be adjusted on mikuni carbs that came off of a 900ss before they can be used on a 750 Paso? Does anyone know a good way to check for proper float height or have a measurement to go by?

I'll see if I have a Monster 750 manual kicking around. FLoat height is very important to proper fueling.

Hi Nick

I have a Paso fitted with Mikunis and K&N filters, where they came from isn't recorded. Getting the carbs set up properly has proved tricky, I still have a slight flat spot 3000-4000 rpm on a full open throttle, but I found the procedure on the Factory Pro website invaluable (http://www.factorypro.com). It gives enough information to find the level which suits your bike best. A float level of about 14mm. seems to be about right, the most important thing is to make sure that the float assembly is properly seated, and the closing tang is only just touching the valve without compressing the pilot spring. Once you have played a couple of times you will get the feel of it, and there are plenty of tips from other people on the Factory Pro boards.

I have also fitted new emulsion jets and renewed all the O rings, the Haynes manual covers most of this, but the whole carb has to be right, float level is indeed critical but it is not the only variable.

as far as I know, the float height on a carb sould stay the same no matter which bike it is on. the float height is specific to the carb, not the bike. when the carb is transfered from one bike to the next it is the jetting that needs to be adjusted. just try to look up the factory specs for your carb. flat spots at full throttle could implicate too small or to big of the main jet.
now I am not an expert by any measure, but I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in and hope it proves helpfull!
