title confusion

O.K. check this out, my title says my 750 paso is a 1988, but my bike says 1987. now I have heard that they used to title the bikes upon sale, so the the date of the title would be on the initial purchase date.
any truth to this?

Hi pikey, if the VIN# match, then what the title reads is your bike year. Can you tell if the manufacture date was past June 87? if that's the case that's why it reflects as an 88. Can you contact the previous owner or agency that did the transfer? They should have the records! Good Luck!

the manufacture date is june of 87. I just found out that if its after july first then it is considered the following year. thanks!

Which part of the vin is the year?
better still has anybody got a complete brake down of the vin and what each part means?
