Just bought a 1987 750 paso. Its been sitting for about 6 years so it needs some work, but I didn't pay much for it. I drained the gas out of the tank and put some fresh stuff in. It sort of runs but the neelde is stuck open so it is pouring gas out or the carb. The carb needs rebuilding and it needs some new tires. Looking forward to getting it running and seeing what else it needs.

First thing you'll have to prevent is timing belts: they are to be changed every second year or 12000 miles
More, a good ceckup must include the cleaning from rost from all the pluggings in the electrical plant (expecially for the ignition part)
Also a wiring ugrade will be useful (see 750 faq topic in this forum)

Welcome to the addiction we call Ducati and the specific drug is the PASO! It's a great bike that will need some love and attention to make it a rock solid road bike.

As NIcola has said, change those belts! It's a medium hard task to do but if you have some basic tools you can do it. If you need some trickes can list the here for making it a 1/2 hour job.

Clean the carb and tank out. This will require taking the carb apart to clean it throughly. Don't cheat on this step, the Weber isn't the best carb set up to begin with so a 1/2 dirty one would really suck.

To resolve some of the biggest problems you will need to upgrade the electrics to a more durable design. This is a fiarly simple task and will eliminate many issues, big and small. The mod is listed in the FAQ section at the top of the forum. Get a GEL battery too and clean all grounds to make them nice and shiny!

The tires can be hard to find so order them ASAP. The handling is very sensitive to air pressure so play with the front rear pressure to get close to neutral handling. I run 33 front and 36 rear. 1 PSI makes a difference, so be patient to get it right.

Trust me, the search function is your friend on this site. There is a LOT of terrific information and people on this site to use as resources to get your Paso running in tip-top shape. Sounds like you are in a better boat than I am with my Paso. At least yours was running.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking throught the faq and there is some great stuff in there. Looking forward to riding this bike. Seems like a little maintenance and some paint and it'll be good as new.
