hi,

This is ab, from the netherlands.
I have a paso 750 with a 900ss engine but i am thinking about to upgrade it.

Does anyone have any experience with a 748, 916 and higher engine under a paso??

Of course i need to rewire it and install the computer at some place, watercooler also etc. etc.

I know there's lot to be done to accomplish that, but i'm willing to take the chance!!

For example, what i don't know is if the engine/frameconnection is the same??

hope to hear from you,,

greets, ab.

Here's a Paso that has an 888 engine in it.

ok thanx, that's what i wanted to see.

at least there's just enough space to build the engine in the frame with watercooler etc.

do you see the two different wheels he used?

front 16"
rear 17"

At least remembering, that some difficulties to adopt 906 water cooleed engine to 750 frame. Some troubles in distance between radiator and front wheel  But seems, that its much easier to fit air/oil cooleed engine (750cc,or 900cc) to 750 Paso.

If you're looking for more power, the 944 with some flat-slides kit for the 900SS engine is a killer combination. I know a few riders that have done this and the change is really amazing. Worth every penny and much easier to do. It also keeps the bike more original!

Yesss

that is true, but a big bore kit is on the second hand market not very much available.

the new kit with second hand flatslides costs around 1500 euro more or less.

for this money i can already buy a 748 engine (hoping thats it is ok).

but before i started thinking about the other engine i was trying to get my hands on a big bore kit.

i still don't know, but i've got the whole winter to decide.

thanx for the replies!! :D

Yeah, you're right on the $$$/Euro that would be spent BUT it will be a bolt in kit and might take 1 weekend to complete.

If you are set on a 4 valve water cooled project then the cost could be similar but getting it done will be a huge project.

Good Luck!

yes, true again my friend.

but a man has got to have his hobby, and i'm always in for a project.

if i do it and it works i will, of course, write a article with some pics!!

ok thanx for your opinion, but could you also tell me why it's so difficult?

it has been done with a 888 engine, so,,,

and of course, the results will be published here!! :D

the gearbox of newer ducatis is different from the one of paso/888.
instaling new egines need a machine cutting of the box. there's an lcreani post about a 750paso>900ss conversion, search for that for further information

zap, i mean, that difficult to choose, WHAT engine You put to Your frame, cause seems, that many possibilities.... Surely 888 engine is very close to 916, if thinking dimensions, but check first, whatkind is that bearing system between engine and swingarm. I know at least, that if 750SS engine is little different, than Pasos 750 engine, so need good planning...

I also would like to see the results.
I'm very curious 'cause I have been astonished by the 906 with the 888 engine :lick: :lick: :lick: :lick:
Ciao

Btw, Guys, if You want to upgrade 906 or 750 with much powerfull 4V engine, REMEMBER to put MUCH MORE BETTER brakes to front, what 906 have.... As You know, 906 have worst front brakes in Paso series, when thinking weight of bike/brake system.... I am serious now, cause i think braking power is as important, as engine power in motocycle! Many times fellows dont think at all this very important thing! Its not so nice to hear, if one Paso have gone again to "heaven of Ducatis" in some crash! More power is good, but need also upgrade front brakes to 4 piston system. I know, how that changed, when i put 907IE brake system(+steel braided brake lines) to my 750 Paso. Now it really stops, when needeed !

hi,

thanx everybody for the replies that keep me thinking about ererything.

i first need you all to show you some pictures of what i've got now.
i also know what to do to assemble another engine, because i have a 750 paso with a 900s '94 engine with 17"wheels. (and it took me some work to assemble that)
about safety: i've got the brembo goldline brakes on it, so i've got a pretty safe bike already, combined with michelin pilot power tyres!!

i'd just want everybody to give his (or her) opinion about this conversion before i start this adventure, because it will be a pretty expensive one...

i'll try to put some pics on the net right now! (i hope)
