17 inch wheels

Hi all, just joined your forum, have a red 1991 906 paso, with 9600 miles, which is my first road bike, also have a kdx 220r and want to go to 17 inch wheels, but keep 906 brakes for now, have a 851 5.5 rear wheel and 180.55x17 tyre, will this fit my swing arm, looks tight, some on forums say yes some no, who's right. The 851 swing arm has different damper linkages, so assume can not use. Also need a new thermostat, local dealer in Aylesbury says no longer available, later ones look the same apart from top elbow faces in opposite direction?

all are right.
A 5.5x17 rear rim will fit but clearances are small.
No clue about a 180/55, but testwise we put that rim with a 170/60 tire in the bike and it fitted. Regarding clearances it`s probably slightely better as the 180/55 still it may require spacers to move the chain away from the tire and the rear adjusters will be turned as much to their rear position as possible to have enough space between tire thread and swingarm leaving you less range for chain adjustment.
A 907ie swingarm would fit though. That`s a bit longer and larger.
I`m not convinced though that a longer swingarm will make handling any better

If you are thinking of Ducati Aylesbury as your local dealer you may as well forget it !

Have a chat with Baines racing at Silverstone as they have a bit of a better knowledge of what may fit in its place regarding the thermostat!

I think the 180 tyre will be pretty tight in there for what its worht but a 170 might be a better bet particualrly something like a Conti road attaxck that is tall but has very little in the way of over hang on the side wall

your rim and your tyre will fit.
But there is really few space between tyre and swingarm and you have to displace the chain outward.
