Re: Swing arm damage, can I weld it?
So, have all the aluminium parts of the bike (footpegs etc.) that coating?
I have thought only that exotic parts anodized blue, gold or so...
Is it so?
So, in that way, can I have the original aluminium finishing
Ciao

Re: Swing arm damage, can I weld it?
I *think* all the aluminum parts are either anodized silver or clear. It helps prevent them from oxidizing and looking bad. I believe it isn't too difficult to get then reannodized any color you want. I'm not exactly sure how to strip the original annodizing off the parts, but it is possible.persempre907 wrote:So, have all the aluminium parts of the bike (footpegs etc.) that coating?

Re: Swing arm damage, can I weld it?
In conclusion, it's possible re-anodize the aluminium parts, if I well understand.
I wonder, will it be expensive

Re: Swing arm damage, can I weld it?
U understood well. And its quite expensive, but it can be done also at home, if You know exactly, what to do. I ahve seen in net some stories, how to do it, but simply need at least chemicals, suitable ectricity(DC power supply with high amps), suitable "pool", where to put stuffs... Colour U can choose whatever, they use normally those clothing colouring knobs/bullets...

Re: Swing arm damage, can I weld it?
I never will be able to do such things.
I meant about some craftsman who could do it.
So, it's possible. Only it needs to find who can make it .

Re: Swing arm damage, can I weld it?
hello,
anodizing diy is possible but there are some snares.
first you have to pickle your parts, best with soda lye ->corrosive
then you need diluted sulphuric acid and a good powersource ->very corrosive
after the bath the anodized layer will be fixated in hot water.
some alloys are not easy to anodize diy. especially alloys like dural, 7075...
I tried it... it´s not expensive

i´ve used a battery charger
the result is ok. it ptotects from corrosion.
if you want a good finish - forget it.

Re: Swing arm damage, can I weld it?
You certianly can get it welded, any sheet metal worker should be able to either mig or tig weld this ( you may have to do a bit of filing to finish the job off ).You will , of course have to remove the swing arm, sooooo I really hope the pivot bolt isn't rusted in as mine was
I wish I was young again............Id be heaps smarter than last time

Re: Swing arm damage, can I weld it?
Ok.....I FINALLY got my welded 907 swingarm back from my buddy who welded it for free.....it took several months because of his lack of free time to sneak it in, but also because he has been out of the motorcycling scene for nearly a year.....but I have no idea why.
Here is what my $20 eBay 907 swingarm looked like when it arrived....
This is what it looked like when it was welded...
This is what it looked like when I filed the welds...
This is what it looks like after hitting it with some 220-grit sandpaper...
It still needs some work to clean it up and I probably need to get a little more welded to make it even better, but it is coming along. Until I decide to get a couple more spots touched up, I'll have my work cut out for me while I file down the internal weld bead...
