On/off Ignition?

About every 3rd time I turn the key to the run position on my Paso it does absolutely nothing; as if I never turned the key on in the first place. Turning the key off and then back on again seems to fix it. Then about three or four key turns later I'm back to a dead ignition. Turning the key off and then on again fixes it, temporarily. I'm concerned that I'm gonna get hundreds of miles from home and have it happen permanently.
Any ideas what this might be?

that is a common problem and the issue is mostly the switch itself.

Well alrighty then - I performed the procedure you provided and it worked like a champ! Each turn of the key now results in a reassuring lights-on result. Turns out my plastic piece was not melted or deformed as you had shown, but my copper terminals looked corroded which I remedied with emory cloth and dielectric grease.
You weren't exaggerating when you said that removing and reinstalling the white piece with all of the wires leading into it was difficult. I bevelled the inner edges of the ignition casing to make it a little easier to reinstall the white piece. Basically, I used a knife to cut the inner edge (had to be very careful to not cut myself). I think that if I found any evidence of the plastic piece getting brittle when pulling it out of the ignition casing, I'd probably grind some of the plastic tabs off to make reinstalling it a little easier.
Again, many thanks for the great tip!

Great read on the fix.
I have a 90 Sport and my question is how to remove the switch. Are the internally threated and tapered "covers" on the underside of the switch removed with a jack screw??
TIA

George, on the bottom side of the ignition switch there are 2 allen bolts.
Check the P750 FAQ and you will find the link to the "Paso magazine articles and other downloads" thread in the P750 forum. In it you`ll also find the 750 Sport workshop manual.

Thanx for the response. I have the Factory manual (pretty useless if you have to do any real work). On my Sport, there are no allen heads. There are these mystery devices.
They have 6mm internal right hand threads. I have bottomed out a 6mm bolt and it is very resistant to further movement. I am reluctant to apply any more force without have a better idea of how they work.
My guess is that they may actually be left hand thread bolts. That would make sense but I would like to have some confirmation before I "get medieval" on it.

Just looking that Your foto: Those screws are just, like i have and mine are "allen screws", remembering, that 6mm, or 8mm socket will fit. Easy to test right tool...

But surely it can be also, that someone have failed those Your screws, that can use any tool to open them...

The threads look like they were made with a bottom tap. Using a mirror to inspect the hole, if there was a 5mm hex (which I believe should be correct) for an allen wrench, it isn't there anymore.
I think I am gonna use a 6mm nut to try and lock the 6mm bolt to the hole and try to ease it out that way.

The jam nut worked. Got it out and I will now proceed with the fix.
Thanx for all of the input.
