FRONT END - THE FORKS

The front forks on my bike will need re chroming soon as they are heavily pitted under the headstock almost into the seal area. I also have noticed that there has been a repair with plastic metal to the threaded housing for the anti-dive unit on the right leg
So it's repair or replace?
Are these forks used on any other bikes?
Is there a match on the Ducati range that I can scavenge parts from or fully exchange?
Any advice much appreciated.
I have already done the search so appreciate the problems even the above will create just to refurbish.
Out of curosity has any one tried using thinner tubes with an outer sleeve?

Hi , I think the forks could be hard chromed again and the housing helicoiled ,check out local suppliers of this kind of service, they can be packed up easily and sent to relevant people.
Don't think the cost would be too bad. I have seen the M1R's come up on ebay at times and it would be likely that some wreckers would have them available if chasing replacement , hope you have some joy with it,
Cheers ,,Marty

851 Ducs have them.

I have contacted Marzocchi UK and they can now only provide the seals for these forks and not the scraper seal However they have given me the name of a local company that can convert the forks for me so I shall try them frst and see what can be done.

polishing or rechromeing sometimes are only temporarily solutions. As the surface is not perfectly even it could still leak or consume seals faster than normal.
Also be careful with "the fork is the same as used on...". I made this experience myself. There are several types of Marzocchi M1Rs on different Ducs and Guzzis (maybe on some other brands also).
I had different fork legs and although they looked almost identical the slider tubes had a different length, the fork spring and the spacer tube inside also. The only part really identical was the rest of the internals and the lower fork housing.
If the 907ie uses the same fork seals as the P750 they are 41,7 55 10/10,5 (inner diameter, outer diameter, height/height of seal lip) or 41,7 55 8/10,5 seals (€ 10/pair at a normal bike shop. 3x as much at Ducati). I had no problem to find these. My Duc dealer could order the dust seals.

Some BMW also fitted the M1R but, as Gerhard told, they are different among them.
So, you need to find the right parts.
I don't have any personal experience but, I was told too, the rechroming can get some problems.
