love this bike ! worth all the inconvienience and i am getting 55 to 57 mpg! does anyone have any experience with lowre grades of fuel?

I always use premuim unleaded (98 octane) & she purrs like a kitten, I have used regular unleaded (91 Octane I think ) when Premium has been unavailable & she does not feel quite the same to me. It could be psychological but I don't think so. I accidentally filled up with E10 (Ethanol) once & "the Mistress" instantly ran like a complete dog, to the point wherer I drained the tank & used this fuel for washing parts.
Pay the price for premium & you will not regret it, your Paso will love you forever!!

were are you getting 98 o. all we get in utah is 91. and i only get 43 mpg.

I have only run through 3 tanks of gas, so far, and I'm only getting a dismal 31-32 mpg. I've been running the 87-octane (regular fuel here in the USA).

Run the cheapest fuel you can until the engine pings.

Yes a too high octane fuel can cause problems over the long term. High octane fuel has additives to slow the rate of burning in the cylinder. These additives can leave deposits on the piston top and valve stems over time becasue a "normal" engine does not have a high enough cylinder temperature to make them burn completely.

You should run the lowest octane possible. You do not want to hear any PING or KNOCK from the engine when accelerating hard.

Isn`t this just the opposite of the first comment ?
Knocking will come from too low octane so when you hear it you should take the fuel with the next higher octane rate, but I guess that is what you mean.

when tey wrote it, they know that US riders can find almost unleaded fuel! this means 91 or less octanes!

I was talking about the high octane gasoline (Agip blue super), with no additive at all.
I can't believe she can damage the engine.....

thanks for all the input, guys. Spoke too soon about my mpg, my last tank was down to 51mpg. Really doesn't matter though, bike is a pleasure to ride. Rode my FJ 1200 and it felt like a Lead Wing!

Frankie,

It's not a special additive but the "octane increasers" that are in every high octane fuel. If your engine does not need them they will not be used amd make deposits in the engine.

I'll put the regular gasoline.....
