Hi all,

my 907ie is apparently dead...yesterday I went to start it and had no luck.

It was used last time only about three weeks ago. The funny thing about yesterday is that while the speedo was illuminated correctly and the clock kept working while I was trying to start the engine they did not seem to be affected by the start engine being engaged.

When I pressed the start button all I got was a one of two "ticks" from down below. As I said the lights did not dim or anything (I kept them on to check all was normal). I then connected the battery to my car with some jump leads and - to my surprise - I got the same result..

I suspect (and hope) it is only the battery that is shagged.

Anyone got any ideas? Many thanks.

if a car battery didn`t start the bike either I would expect it to be the starter or the starter relay. In this case I would try to connect the 12V directly at the starter. If the starter turns it should be the relais.
(The P750 sometimes has such problems. A sign there is that while pressing the start button you slap the starter relay with your flat hand. If it then works you should replace or repair it.)

It does sound like the relay (starter solenoid) that =switches the 12v to the starter. If the lights don't dim when pressing the button then it seems like no power is going to the starter.

You can "jump" the solenoid with a pair of pliers or a jumper cable to see if the starter turns over. Just make sure that you have the trans in NEUTRAL!!

sounds like the starter relais.the leads going to and coming from the starter relay have rubber sockets (most of the time) over the connectors.
In my case one of them appeared to be mounted up side down and acting like a bathtup. needless to say the connector was corroded very badly. after cleaning the bike fired up much faster.
I cured this by rerouting the wires.
furthermore you can check the connectors for broken fibres of copper. this happened to me at the battery. half of the fibers were broken.
putting the jump leads after the startersolenoid will tell the tale.

If I've well understood, he heard some "tick" trying to start the bike.
When I had a problem with the rusty connections on the relay, I couldn't hear any "tick" at all.
No matter, try to clean very well the relay connections (it's under the main right fairing).
