Shit f--k start motor broke again? full battery and only a nasty click, click under the saddle
Does anyone know if one from a 851 will fit?

Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought all the starters for Ducati were the same. Here's my chance to be wrong again.

Sounds more like bad starter solenoid or battery.
Start motors usually only suffer from worn brushes or bad/corroded connections.

You need to go measuring voltage straight to the starter pin!
Anyway, if it's ok ( >11.5 volts), you might happen to experience a "changhing brushes job" (see in the F.A.Q.).
End of all, if the brushes are ok, all duc starters are the same

Sounds most likely that your starter needs new brushes.

Come on, i experienced your same damage and, fortunately, it's not so expensive to fix...

Thanks for all the advice and tips, I checked voltage and ok, the bushes i replaced last summer and did notice the end of the roter shaft (the bit that makes contact with the bushes) was very dirty and worn down, could this be the reason? Anyway i am going to use the 851 startmotor and see if old one can be revised, btw i have changed the bushes 4 times in 12 years, average? btw the first time i had a local dealer do it but after putting repaired starter in the bike would not start, took bike to dealer, he looked and said the sprag clutch was worn took all apart fitted new parts 700 euros, still would not start , i noticed when they turned the engine over that everything was turning the wrong way round:wacko:
Who knows what they did wrong?

Don't forget a faulty spragclutch..! Mine was gone and this is noticed when the starter turns free with, in my case, a loud click at the end. The click was caused by 'grabbing on' from the sprag clutch again.

Nice tip: the sprag clutch of a 906 is now fitted on a KTM, the sprag clutch of an 750 paso is still available as a part from a mini cooper '69 !! It only needs one adjustment and is quite simple. The outer ring has an edge that is 0,5mm too wide in diameter. I've turned this down by fitting it in a traditional drillingmachine and holding a file on the side.

Hi Gents, just to let you know, it was not worn brushes, the copper on the shaft was really dirty again, i cleaned it and like magic it all works again, still i have a spare startmotor, no sorry not for sale, once again thanks for all your input and advice:thumbup: , btw, i was looking for wheel bearings and the price i found was: euro 10,13 each front, euro 8,28 sproket carrier, is this cheap?

I dont know, is it "cheap", or "expensive" to you, but i give advice: You can find near all bearings to your Paso from good bearing shop by taking original to them and ask new one... its very simple and You can also find from these sites plenty of notes about Paso bearings...

Hi Annti, i think these are a good price my local Ducati dealer asked almost twice as much, the bearings are made by KOYO, do you know if these are of good quality?
or do you recommend SKF? this is the first time I change them, thanks in advance.

No, they put the housing from the startmotor the wrong way around and in doing so it changed the polarity of the startmotor making it turn backswards.

Why they didnt MARKED parts, when opened starter ?

It is also possible to put sprag clutch wrongly (talking rotation dirtection!), but that must also checked, when taking old one away. (that new one comes same way...) One time i NEAR made just this "mistake" (with my ST4S), but luckily started to think more, what is right turning direction...

For my experience SKF is high quality bearing brand If i can choose it, or another with same price, i allways choose SKF. Surely its not only good brand, but i have used SKF with good results and they are not so expensive, as Ducati uses "normal size" bearings, nothing very rare.
