I have been thinking about this problem . I think that a electro magnetic or pneumatic actuator is the go here , maybe a small hydraulic ram that runs off engine oil pressure, and if you are really cunning .... you could opperate these by remote control :P :P

why not go to a hardware store and check out their selection of springs
extended lenght is 120 mm and unextended ( stand up ) 110 mm ,outer spring dia 17mm ( same size wether stand extended or not 8) ).Lenght measurements do not include link

I went across to my local bike shop and had a look through a box of old springs till I found some that fit ...free :D .
Might be the way to go ;)

Mc tool, You are on the right track, but actuators would be a bit slow. How about those nail gun gun powder shells or a replaceable bank of small rocket motors. When you are ready to raise the kick stand, you press a button and the force of the explosive charge will propel the kick stand up in a split second.

The bank of charges will give you about a week up charges. You could replace them when you filled your tank.

Cheers

Joe

Sorry - haven't checked the site lately..
I finally got a spring for the side stand from an old bike shop - NOT free....
Before that, I tried a spring from the hardware shop - but not strong enough...
Centre stand springs are a bit weak, but as long as I remember to push the stand up before I ride off, it is OK...
