My generator light does not work (bike is charging and the bulb is new). I think I saw on this site somewhere that the replacement Ducati regulators did not have a feature to show engine charging via the "battery" light on the dash. The number on my regulator is "AS41 50". Does this ring a bell with anybody and does anyone have any suggestions? There are 7 colored wires coming off the regulator.

7 wires ? It only has 6 unless there`s another one going to the regulators chassis as ground connection. An aftermarket Electrex regulator has one wire less so it can`t be one.

I had one that the alternator warning light was not "useable" with...
It was an "aftermarket" unit fitted to the 907 before I bought it.
We picked up an AC "spike" on oscilloscope and discarded it when I was trouble-shooting the misfire (thinking the AC might upset the ECU).
From recollection it was 6 wire.
The replacement reg gave me back the warning light.

I recently had a problem with my 1997 900SS reg; Ducati electric now make a "better" reg that is also compatible with the 907.
the new unit also has the warning light working.

My regulator has 7 wires, 3 yellow, 2 red and 2 green or gray (bad eyes). Markings on regulator are: RS41 50 2J15. Anybody know this regulator? Also where can you get one that will give me back the battery charging light? Thanks.

Ok, had the electrical wizards over today and they determined that my aftermarket regulator has no capacity to show battery is charging. So once more, does anyone know of a replacement regulator that allows charging light to work?

I'll take a stab at the 7 wires.
Generally:
Yellow wires connect to alternator (3 would indicate it was made for 3 phase, but will work with one phase, just use two of them)
Red and green to positive and negative of battery, and maybe also system, like ground to frame, and red to main power wire.
Grey - usually for charging light. Other side of light goes to the positive of the battery. If no power from the alternator, then the line in the R/R will go to ground and the light comes on. If there is charging, then both sides of light bulb will see a positive charge, but since there is no potential between them, the bulb will not light up. Make sure your light bulb is seeing voltage from the battery. (Its a simple comparison between the battery and the R/R)

With that many wires, I think the R/R was from a touring bike with more electrical demands. If it works, then use it.

An Electrex RR51 will do you fine, and give you the charging light. So too will any R/R from a Monster or SS up to 99 or so.

I've been using this regulator for about 4 years now. Works great. Below is a diagram that might help you. Notice the warning light circuit.
